Where to get a pettiskirt?

I want to get one of those big ruffly tutu's for my daughter's 1st birthday picture.  I've seen them on ebay and etsy but was wondering if anyone knew of any other places to get them.

I'm also torn on what color to get.  I was thinking black.  WDYT?

Re: Where to get a pettiskirt?

  • I actually saw some at Costco a couple weeks ago. They were only $15.00!

  • I actually got DD's tutu at Buy Buy Baby for $20.  I thought it was really cute, even if it wasn't "homemade."  image
  • The one I bought for DD was made by "Popatu" and I found it at a local childrens store. If you google them there are quite a few on Amazon.

I actually bought one of the pettiskirt dresses because I couldn't find a skirt at the last minute and cut the top off and sewed elastic in the waist.

Here is what it looks like:

  • I found some cute cheap ones on ebay a while back. I think they were from Hong Kong, but they were only $10!

  • I've seen them at local baby boutiques, but they are always so expensive.  I googled instructions and they are SO easy to make, I've made DD 3 of them now.  Each one costs about $15 in materials, and takes approx. 2 hours to make (working on it 5-10 min at a time when I get a chance)

Most online instructions suggest tieing the tulle onto elastic, but I found that there wasn't much stretch left in the elastice when i got done, so I just tie it right on the ribbon and then tie it around DD with a big bow.  If you want more detailed instructions feel free to PM me!

  • Trust me, I'm sure that I don't have the time or talent to make one.  I saw some on ebay, and they were cute, and not "tu-tu" expenseive (pardon the pun), but it's just deciding on a color.

I like black because it's classic, but is black too morose for what's supposed to be a happy/celebratory baby picture?

I'm not interested in pink or purple or brown ... I saw a cute royal-ish blue one ... red is cute, and red looks good with my baby's coloring, (she's olive/Mediterranean skinned) ... oh well, I guess I'll figure it out.

    Thanks!

  • My daughter has a pink, a pink with rainbow dyed bottom, and a teal one. I really do love them all, but if you want something other than the pink, purple girly ones, I really would suggest the deep teal! I don't think black is bad for 1st birthday pictures. They are puffy and fun enough that black would still be birthday-ish. If that's what you like, don't be afraid to go with it!  https://www.kaiyaeve.com/gallery/?album=1&gallery=2
  • If it's just for pics maybe you could borrow one (or a few) from the ladies on here? You could pay for shipping and you wouldn't be stuck buying one for pics that you'd never put on her again.

    Just a thought!

  • I don't have a little girl yet but have seen Babysteals regularly features the Katelyn and Co. pettiskirts. They are so beautiful and come in interesting colours. However, if you want to buy right away, they are a little pricey -- around $70. Babysteals usually has them for about $30.
