Pharmacy question: chewable vs. liquid?

DD1 has a dog allergy and was just prescribed Zyrtec. The allergist thought it might be cheaper if he prescribed it to me rather than me buy it over the counter. Well, the prescription isn't covered by my insurance. The pharmacist said we can just buy the chewables (what was prescribed) which are a little pricey or that they have a liquid that's somewhat cheaper. I think DD would take a liquid better anyway, but is there any difference between taking a liquid versus a chewable?

  • I don't think there's a difference. Annalise prefers the chewables though. She's allergic to dogs, so she sometimes needs to take a Claritin after being around my sister's dog. After taking a chewable for that, she refused to drink the liquid Tylenol when she had a fever. I had to go out and buy chewable Tylenol too.
