DS's teacher spoke to me about him

I guess my DS hasn't been listening very well lately.  When the teacher asks him to do something he either ignores her or laughs.  He does this at home, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that he is doing it there too.  I was a little bummed because he's done well in daycare.  Anyway, the good news is that he didn't talk back to her. I think I would be a little more concerned about that to be honest.  So, my DH and I spoke to our DS and the teacher said he is doing much better.  Anybody else have this problem?

  • We do a rewards chart at home now so that if my son had a good day of listening he gets a sticker - and gets a reward after 10 stickers.  He is 5 though.  Not sure how old your son is.

  • My DS just turned 2 (and is a bit younger than yours), and is pushing limits by not listening and sometimes hitting. Everything I read indicates that kids this age are pushing boundaries and that this is a phase. We try to be consistent with our reactions (time outs, hand are not for hitting, etc.) and our DC provider does something similar to a time out, it's called a choice chair. Each time I would get a report that DS wasn't listening or was hitting, I would feel like I had failed somehow. The more I read, the more I realized that my kid is not the only kid in the universe going through this! There are good days and there are bad days, so hang in there! :)
