DH and I are going back and forth about transferring 1 or 2 embies (I'm 27, he's 29). We've read articles and talked a lot about it, but just can't make a solid decision. I'm just wondering what other peoples deciding factor was.

Re: Thoughts on transferring 1 vs. 2 (s/paifw)
I am almost certain we will only transfer 1,but we have one child already and would prefer to avoid multiples if at all possible and only want 2 children in all.
If it was our first child, we would almost certaintly transfer 2.
If we get 2 embies to transfer...we plan to do 2. Here's how we arrived at it.
Our RE suggested 1 or 2, but said he would do 2 if it was his decision. RE does not see any reason why I could not support a twin pregnancy (obviously it is higher risk).
We can afford twins, if we got them. And finally...we would be more than happy to have twins, and close the book on this crappy IF journey.
Now we're waiting on our miracle baby ... a little GIRL!!!
We transferred two at the recommendation of my nurse...she actually said they "don't" transfer one at a time, though I find that hard to believe. I have always wanted twins and wasn't sure I would want to go through IVF more than one time (if transferring two gave me a better chance of getting pregnant). Of course I would do it again if it didn't work and honestly with the complications this pregnancy, I don't know if I ever will be pregnant again, so provided my twins are born healthy and hang in there, I am happy with our decision.
We did 2 based on our RE's suggestion and the fact that we are ok with twins. We also understand that it could be more than two - and are ok with that. Also, we're now in our mid thirties and would like more than one.
I think you have to be comfortable with all the possible outcomes - not just the best or worst.
Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
We haven't been in that position but based on our conversations, we would probably do 2, but we are older than you are so don't have as much time.
Good luck with whatever you decide, it will be the right choice for you!

DS-IUI #1-4 BFN IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
Assuming we do a 5 day transfer we will probably only transfer one. My clinic strongly recommends single transfers, and transferring 2 only increases pregnancy rates by 5%. Since both DH and the RE are pushing one, we'll do one, but a piece of me feels like we'd have more hope with two embies.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

Depends on what your feelings are about twins.
I always secretly wanted twins. And now that they are here, I'm so glad I was lucky enough to have two. It's a lot of work but it's totally manageable (and we are lucky enough that money isn't an issue).
I've always transferred 2 perfect looking embryos every time until my last cycle. I was so desperate that I begged my RE to do 3. I do have to say though, the idea of triplets freak me out! I think that would be so much harder than twins.
But when we do go back (and I think we will), I think we'll only do 1 at a time. I don't think we can handle 2 sets of twins.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
I think it depends on the quality of the embryos and the number you have.
I am AMA and we transferred 3 with our 1st IVF attempt and 2 with our 2nd IVF attempt. The 3 with our 1st weren't the best quality. The 2 were better quality on our 2nd try.
We can afford twins and I would really like to be done with IF treatments due to my age.
I agree totally with pp that it depends on quality and number of embryos. You may find that the decision kind of gets made for you based on this.
We went back and forth on this issue and didn't fully decide until day of ET. There we found out we had some good quality embryos and so decided to transfer 1 and freeze others. Had the quality not been so good, or if it looked like we would not have any to freeze, that would have changed our decision to 2.
For this upcoming FET we will likely transfer 2.
