We recently had to put DS back on his reflux meds and getting him to take them is a nightmare. I usually have to hold him down, squirt it down his throat, and hope he swallows some in the process. I have tried letting him give it to himself, showing him how his sister takes her meds, and give him a couple of m&m's to get rid of the nasty taste. I can't mix it with milk or food.
DH and I are actually in an argument over this right now. He had to give DS his meds when I was at work last night and told me he spanked DS when he spit them out. I think it was totally uncalled for and only makes things worse. I don't blame DS for not wanting to take the nasty stuff and am trying to make the whole process as pleasant as possible.
Re: How do you get your two-year-old to take medicine?
I did the sneak attack yesterday and he choked and ended up throwing up. I felt awful! It doesn't help that I have to give him two tablespoons of the stuff, not easy to get him to choke down.
Hope things get easier with giving meds to your 4-year-old!
What type of medicine is he on for Reflux? We have used Prevacid solutabs for a long time with Reid. When he was much younger he had a hard time dissolving the tablet under his tounge so we mixedit with a small amount of juice. Since the age of 2.5 or so, he just dissolves the tablet under his tongue.
Maybe you could switch to a medicine like that, it isn't bitter and doesn't cause much of a fight.
Good Luck! Heather
