Stroller question from 2nd tri

Hi Ladies,

I have a stroller question for you. Last night DH and I went to BRU and we are a little overwhelmed with all the stroller options. What do we REALLY need? A travel system, a snap and go, a light weight stroller, all 3? What brands do you have and what do you like/dislike about them?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! TIA

Re: Stroller question from 2nd tri

  • I have a lightweight stroller but have yet to use it.  I just wear her everywhere instead!

  • We have the chicco fortunately travel system. In hindsight I would have probably gotten a jogging stroller that I could snap the infant seat in. I really like the Phil and Ted one and may just get it.
  • We have the Chicco travel system and L O V E it!  The Chicco infant car seat is one of the highest rated infant seats for safety.  We love the stroller - you can open it with one hand, it cleans easily, turns on a dime, the seat lays all the way down for baby to sleep or you can have it at an incline, the sun shade and fold down towards the ground to keep the sun out of baby's face, there's great storage, the handle adjusts (which is great if you and others using the stroller are different heights) up and down, there's a cup holder for the stroller user and for baby.  It's just all around great. :)

Our third addition is on their way!
  • I got a Peg Perego Aria (and the matching car seat though not sold together as a travel system) and I hate it. Very shortly after we moved DS out of the infant seat and into a convertible (about 2 months) I bought a Maxi Cosi Foray and I love it.

I wear/stroller about pretty evenly depending on where I am going. I would go with a snap n go until baby is here and you see what you really need/want in a stroller.

  • we used a snap n go in the begining. i LOVED it. Worth every penny. My mom got a travel system for DD and it was no where near as convient as the snap n go.

Now we are transitioning to a lightweight every day stroller. I wear her a lot, but in some cases, the stroller makes more sense for us.

  • I have the Chicco travel system, the snap n go, and a city mini. I think the travel system is bulky and unncecessary. In hindsight I would just get the snap n go and the city mini.

  • I have a Graco Travel System and I love it! I take DD on walks everyday it isn't raining. The only thing I dislike is that the stroller is heavy to lug in and out of the car. That said we rarely take it anywhere in the car, so that doesn't really matter to us.

  • I registered for and got the Graco Travel System just becuase I thought that's what you are supposed to get.   I regret getting the travel system...it is heavy and bulky and not at all convenient to take shopping.   I will say that it is nice and sturdy for taking LO on walks.

I got a lightweight Graco snap-n-go that I like and served its purpose while she was still in her infant carrier. Having that would have been just fine. Although the wheels are a bit wobbly for walks around my house, where the sidewalks are really bumpy.

I also bought a Chicco Capri Stroller now that she is big enough and its great and super easy for going shopping/running errands.

I would start out by picking an infant carrier and then a stroller that you;d like to use for after the infant seat.  Most strollers have the car seat adapter.

I wish so bad that I would've done more research when it came to strollers....

  • We got a snap & go for the first few months. I highly recommend it -- light, big basket, has parent tray, steers well, etc.

Your opinion on what you want in a stroller may change drastically once you actually have a baby. You may decide that certain features are absolute musts -- and they may be very different than what you think you want now.

We got a snap & go for the first few months when DD1 was in her infant seat, then bought a cheap lightweight stroller for traveling (most of the time I wore her while we were just out & about), and when she was around a year old, we got our Kolcraft Contours Options four-wheeler, which is still our main stroller even though we have two kids now.

My must-have features ended up being a) the ability to face the seat forward or backward toward me, without paying $$$ b) big basket, c) huge, fully adjustable shade, d) single handle as opposed to two and e) cup holder. Weight ended up being way down on the list, since I mostly haul it around in the back of my car.

I don't know too many people who ended up being happy with their travel system and actually keeping and using the stroller for very long. The people who did tend to have gotten Chicco Cortinas.

This, except, I got the Graco Snug Ride set and I don't find it to be TOO bad (as far as weight/lugging in and out of the car).  It's terrific for me because I can open and close it one handed, and it's got two cupholders up top (for me) and one on the tray (for baby).  It has a HUGE storage basket under the seat, and the seat reclines all the way back so she can sleep if need be.  sometimes I leave her in her car seat and snap it into the stroller, other times I put her in the stroller....depending on where we're going.  The other thing I like is that when in the car seat/snapped into the stroller the sunshade from her seat and the sunshade from the stroller meat in the middle and sort of create a little 'tent" of sorts for her to be totally covered (in case of rain or extreme sun or something).

  • We bought the Travel system, and I hated the stroller that came with it. I also have a lightweight stroller, and I recently bought a Zooper with 4 wheels (kind of like a 4 wheel jogging stroller).

I will never buy another travel system again. In our neighbourhood, there's not alot of sidewalks (only one 1 side of the street), and the travel systems do not do well on anything other than pavement (mine didn't anyways). I use my lightweight stroller the most, when I'm not using my sling.

  • We have an evenflo journey elite travel system & a smaller lightweight umbrella.  Although I love the features of a travel system, I hate our particular stroller!  I keep hoping someone steals it when it's sitting in our garage with the door open.  But I love having the option of packing it full of what we're going to need under the seat.  I also want to store everything on the Mommy hooks I bought when we're out shopping.  I only use my lightweight one if we're outside on a quick walk.  I'm sure as she gets older & needs less things, I'll be using it more.

From what I hear, the travel system is bulkier & heavier than it's worth.

We have a lightweight stroller, and a 3-wheel all-terrain stroller, and love them both.  I keep the lightweight in the car at all times, and use the 3-wheel for neighborhood walks & things like outlet mall shopping & outdoor events.

  • I use a BOB AW 12" for the full sized stroller.  I like to jog and it also works well as an every day stroller.

We also have an umbrella stroller for travel, grocery shopping when we need the cart, and also for packed restaurants like Cheesecake factory.
