Anyone else stop working out?

I have a subchrionic hemmorhage and was told to take it easy. I tried just taking a couple of 1 mile walks at a medium pace and started spotting afterwards both times. So I have decided not to work out at all until I know everything is in the clear. I have to say that I don't think I would be working out even without this b/c I feel like such crap! However the scale is already reflecting my sedentary-ness and I've already gained 5 lbs and am extremely bloated!

  • I too have stopped working out for the same reasons. I know exactly how you feel Sad

  • I've just started to pull back on my work out, mostly out of exhaustion.  I have some ridiculous m/s but working out has actually seemed to help.

You're in an entirely different boat.  Sounds like you need to stop working out to stay healthy.  Don't worry about the weight.  I've gained 5 pounds and I'm still burning roughly 1,500 calories per day by working out alone.  Don't even want to think about what would happen to my weight if I weren't working out (although I'm sure my appetite would subside as well).

  • I agree.... I would love to go for a walk, however the idea of carrying a puke bucket with me on the walk doesn't tickle my fancy. Plus I'm just so tired and dehydrated all the time!! I used to run 3x a week, and now I walk..... once a month???  yikes!
  • i was training for half marathon before i found out i was pregnant. ran three to seven miles several time a week. now i am simply too sick and tired. have already gained five pounds. i am concerned i will gain too much weight.
  • Yep- used to run with the dog every morning before work, but now mornings are just too sickening. I haven't gained much weight because I have no appetite, but am concerned about cardio health/muscle strength etc. Plus I feel bad for our doggy- I know she's missing our morning time!

I'm literally shocked at how my body is seemingly revolting against all healthy activities (diet and exercise) when I should be living healthy to grow a baby! It's frustrating to me...

  • i can barely function.  period.

    wuss?  maybe.

  • I've only exercised 2x since finding out (and I tried jogging right before I found out & thought my boobs were going to erupt like a volcano!)   Ugh, I guess give it time - I am seeing the negative in my clothes not fitting very well already from not doing anything.  Lately I feel like regular chores are a workout ;0  It's probably wise not to do anything too physical (as you already decided).  Did they put you on any blood thinners?  Stay hydrated - T&P's!!
  • I stopped working out around 7wks when the m/s really kicked in, any additional motion was just unbearable. My plan is to start back up in a few more wks when I'm not so nauseous.

  • I stopped for a while because I had some bleeding. I started back up again at 12 weeks when I got the all clear, but I really can't do as much as I did previously.

  • I still workout, just not with the same intensity. Since I am running a full marathon on Oct 17th, I am still running.

I just change my routine around now. I have a lot more energy during lunch and so I do my weekday runs during this time. My office has a gym and showers and stuff, so I am able to shower after my run. I don't do weight training in the mornings anymore either because I just need my sleep. So I alternate running days during lunch with weight training.

I am supposed to do a 20 miler this Sat, but I am going to opt out. I have 3 marathons this year and my most recent was on July 25th. I know when marathon day comes, I will have enough energy and motivation to do the distance, until then, I am not going to push it to get in all the miles.

  • All I've been doing is 30-40 minutes on our recumbent bike at home...I've just had too many horrible headaches to do much more. I don't think people need to do hardcore workouts when pregnant though (Burning 1500 calories in 1 workout?!).....The point is no longer to lose weight, ladies! :o

  • I was diagnosed with a subchrionic hemmorhage during my 7th week.  I was put on restrictions, had to stop working out all together and was told to not do too much lifting and bending. Make sure you don't over do it, listen to your body, in most cases this will resolve on its own as your pregnancy progresses but should it get bigger, it can cause some serious problems for your little one. This is the time you really need to make sacrifices and rest. I would avoid the one mile walks, since you have had spotting after doing it and that is really not taking it easy.  Good luck with everything!
  • Running became too painful because I don't have a good enough sports bra. I've just been too tired. I've tried to start at least walking around the neighborhood after work. I tried taking the stairs at work today and felt like I was going to pass out from dizziness after 4 flights.

  • I've only run a couple times since BFP and I try to walk as much as I can.  The only way I can deal with nausea is eating every half hour.  I try to eat as healthy as possible, but it's hard.  I've already gained 10 lbs.  I'm hoping I'll feel better soon and I can get my eating back on track and start exercising a few times a week.  I think as long as the nausea and fatigue fades in the second tri I can get back on track and stay within the healthy weight gain range.  But for now.... I feel like a lazy, beached whale.

  • I used to swim competitively twice a week for an hour, heavy lift for 30 min. followed by about an hour of hard cardio, and run 4-7 miles on Saturdays.

However, because my first pg ended in m/c, my midwife immediately put me on pelvic rest w/ no heavy lifting when she found out I was pg again.  Almost immediately, I also simply wasn't able to do half the stuff I used to just because I was so sick and fatigued.

I still lift twice a week (nothing over 50-60 lbs.) and do light cardio afterward, but that's about all I've been able to manage.  I'm just too darn sick and/or tired.

I haven't gained much weight but I have lost muscle so I think once the muscle atrophy stops and the fat catches up, I'll start having more of a gain on the scale.  I'm definitely noticing a difference in my clothes at this point but I'm trying not to stress it because I can work this off at the gym next summer.

  • I've been too sick to work out. Any movement makes the nausea worse. Hoping to start again soon in a few weeks though
