December 2010 Moms

Anyone wondering what Thanksgiving is going to be like???

I have been wondering this for a while now. things like, am i going to have any room in my belly to fit food??? It is my favorite eating holiday and i cant imagine stuffing my face with as much turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, pie, and for us norwegians, lefse!!!! as i can eat! but as it is right now, i can barely eat a mcdonalds double cheeseburger without being full.

I guess 1 good thing that will come from it will be that i dont have to help clean up after everyone. hehe... I will get o sit around and actually visit with all my family. Come xmas, i will be a bit too busy to visit with everyone. besides, they will all be gagaing over LO.

What is everyone thinking about Thanksgiving?? What are your plans?

Re: Anyone wondering what Thanksgiving is going to be like???

  • The entire family is going to our IL's for Thankgiving, which is about 45 minutes from our house and 25-30 minutes from the hospital (in case I go into early labor, lol!).  For Christmas, I am having my parents and DH's parents, sister/husband come to our house.  With the LO only being potentially a few days old, I definitely don't want to be traveling!!!  Everyone says I'm nuts for having Christmas at our house, but, I will have tons of help so I really don't think it'll be all that bad.  We'll see!

  • Ugh, now that you mention it, the heartburn is probably going to take the charm out of Thanksgiving this year. Oh well. We usually go to two different houses on Thanksgiving. I don't know if I'll have the energy this year. We'll see.

  • This is our first Thanksgiving in the area, so I'm actually really excited about the cooking, trying new recipes, etc. DH's two best friends from Louisiana might come up to visit during that time, so I would have some (very light) entertaining to do. They're nice guys and very low-maintenance houseguests,

  • We'll be doing our usual plans - hosting my parents at our house. Especially because I work from home on Wednesdays, so I'll be home the day before and my Mom can possibly come over and help me prep as many things ahead of time as possible!

  • Dh and I are super stressed about Thanksgiving. We actually spent yesterday afternoon talking about it. I am due December 3rd which is dangerously close to Thanksgiving. I think we are going to stay home and eat lots of food and watch football. No traveling and people are more than welcome to come to our house. It might be our last quiet holiday or we might have a baby by then. Either way sounds wonderful!

  • Since I'm due Dec 3rd, we're going to be staying home and not traveling anywhere.  I don't think we're going to have any plans, at least nothing that requires me to prepare anything Wink

  • I am hosting Thanksgiving for 30 people.  Dh volunteered us (me) for this job when no one else in his family offered to host this year.  I am not excited.  :(

  • i'll be in the hospital recovering from the c/s. my ob is going to schedule my c/s for 10 days prior to my edd, so that places me two days before thanksgiving on 11/23.

i'll always be a Dec Mama at heart though!!!!

  • Well, since my day won't be starting out with Mimosas....I'm guessing not as much fun, lol.

  • We'll be at my cousin's house IF I'm still pregnant (I'm due a week later on the 3rd).  They're only a 20 minute drive away, so it's not a huge deal.

Also, if I'm still pregnant at that point, I do believe I will indulge in a glass of wine.

  • I'm so disappointed about Thanksgiving. My doctor said no travel more than an hour away after 34 weeks. I'll be about 36 weeks then, so I had to cancel our plans to visit my family. I'm really bummed. Now it will be just H and me and I won't go through the trouble of a big T-day meal just for us. :(

Great minds think alike curlydoglover.  I'm not due until the 21st but I decided if I'm still pregnant on Christmas day that I might indulge in a teeny tiny baby Mimosa... :-)

  • We'll be doing what we've done the past 2 years, I assume:  Wednesday night dinner with my family, Thursday night with DH's.

This may be the year I blow up at DH's family regarding clean-up.  Every year poor old grandma cooks the meal, then everyone gets up and passes out in front of a football game leaving the mess behind for her.  It makes me so mad.  If that happens again this year and the only ones doing any clean up are an 86 year old woman and a 37w pregnant lady, there will be words.  (I too will be enjoying a glass of wine, I think I will have earned it).

  • We usually go to my uncle's house about 1.5 hrs away but this year my mom may just do it at her house depending on the whole baby situation. I really haven't thought about it...

  • I am due Dec. 3rd as well.  DH and I decided we would do what we normally do pending no early arrival.  We are hosting Thanksgiving.  Keeps us home, all our family will come to us and if I go into labor we will just take off for the hospital lol.  IF the baby comes early, then obviously that won't be the case...Everyone thinks we are crazy, but really all we will have to prep is the turkey and stuffing, our moms will bring everything else.  Seems easy enough to me....

  • Thanksgiving = Me stuffing my face in 3 phases, since my stomach will be so small by then!  hahah~

  • This is our year with H's family in Chicago (where we live). Luckily, their Thanksgiving tradition is going to the country club and being served dinner. Works for me...although we are hosting Christmas at our house two weeks after LO is due. I think my mom and MIL will do most of the cooking/prep work for that though.

  • DH and I have already declared that Thanksgiving was going to be all for us this year.  We are staying home and DH is cooking dinner (because he loves it, every year he photographs how beautiful his turkey turned out) and I expect that both of us will end up eating three smaller Thanksgiving meals throughout the day, and the next day, and the next day.
  • Neither DH's family nor my own have come up with actual plans for Thanksgiving, so I am just assuming that it'll be "the usual" until I hear otherwise. This means Wednesday night with DH's family, Thursday morning/lunch at my mom's, and Thursday night at my grandparents' (my dad's parents). DH's is always loud but not that involved, and my mom's is pretty low key, so the only "real" holiday-celebration-like meal will be thursday's dinner, so even though it sounds like a lot, I'm not concerned.

Even though I'm due on Dec 2, and theres a pretty good chance James will make an early appearance, I can't imagine not celebrating Thanksgiving with the whole family - it's the only holiday we still celebrate all together, and there are tons of birthdays in that same week (including mine!) so we celebrate those, too. AND, I'm 40 minutes from the hospital whether I'm home or at their house, just in a different direction.

That was a lot longer than I intended.

  • Going to my parents house on Thanksgiving (only 10 minutes from my house) and my MIL's house on Black Friday for Thanksgiving dinner. This is all assuming I'm not in labor/having a baby/still in the hospital after having him since I'm due December 1st :-P

He could come at 37 weeks and come with us to Thanksgiving dinners... that would be fine with me! :-)

  • We always go to my DH's grandmother's in Tulsa for Thanksgiving (we're from Houston) but I'll be almost 38 weeks along at Thanksgiving this year so that's a no-go :-(....so my DH is going to do a turkey and I'm going to do a few of my fave sides and we're just going to stay home. My parents usually go to their deer lease at Thanksgiving but my mom has to work so I think they're going to join us.
  • I am pretty sure it will just be DH and me. My parents live too far to come and his parents will refuse to make the 4 hr. drive, so I'll have the ease of making a small meal for 2 and actually get to relax all day! I'm kind of looking forward to it since I know everyone will be at our house for Christmas!

All are welcome in my posts

  • Moms house is two hours from the hospital, so assuming I'm still pg, the dr will probabl advise against it. I haven't asked the dr yet, so I'm not sure, but it seems like the norm. Also haven't mad up my mind about Christmas, so we'll see.

  • I looooove Thanksgiving food.  I'm hoping I don't get full too quickly or I will be very very sad.  I love Thanksgiving so much that I usually have friends over for a Thanksgiving party about a week before.  I usually do a turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, cornbread and apple crisp.  It's like the one time of year that I really cook, haha.  I'm not sure if we'll be doing our dinner w/friends this year though, since I'll be about 35 weeks around the time we normally do it.

The ILs live 1 1/2 hours away and my family lives 3 hours away, so we can't go visit them since I'll be about 36 weeks.  So we invited them to our place for a Thanksgiving feast.  There will be 8 or 9 of us and I'm sure my mom and MIL will help cook.

As for Christmas, I'm due on 12/27, so again, we are staying put.  Our families will come visit since we definitely can't travel and LO is due around the holidays.  Shoot, I might even be in the hospital on Christmas Eve/Day!

  • I'm not too worried, I figure if I can't pig out, but still feel full that's probably the best...I don't really need it, but still will enjoy it. I'm due on the 6th, so I'm hoping this meal will get baby Sadie ready to go :) My plan: thanksgiving dinner, Friday - put up tree, Saturday - Sadie arrives...of course this is daydreaming :)

  • My main concern about Thanksgiving is that LO will come early (I'm due Dec. 9) and I will deliver Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving weekend and get the crappiest doctors and nurses on the worst shift.

Also, I know I will not feel like going to in IL's for the family circus if I'm not in labor. Last year they seriously had 30 people - we didn't even all fit around one table. Ugh.

But mainly, dear God, please don't let me deliver Thanksgiving weekend when my parents are on a week-long cruise and every good doctor is off!

  • Being that Thanksgiving is so close to my due date (Dec. 2) I think that we are going to do Thanksgiving dinner on Halloween instead. Seems kinda silly I know, but that way my DH can make his family's traditional turkey soup. We plan on just having turkey soup for Thanksgiving.

  • We host family at our home every year and plan to do that again this year. Family brings the most amazing dishes!! It's tradition that I make apple dumplings and DH makes lefse so I'm looking forward to that! I will be huge, but I'm going to pig out! I'm mostly looking forward to all of the leftovers, as my due date is just a week or so later. No need to stock the freezer with dream dinners.

If Nolan is born early, we will still do Thanksgiving at our home and I think we will invite family to visit him in the NICU....unless he is home earlier than his due date...then we would have some changes to make, as he shouldn't be around people that soon.

  • I'm hoping I get to enjoy family and food - we live in the same town as both sets of grandparents!  Then I kind of hope that baby comes right along soon after.  I'm not due until the 3rd, but I've heard being overdue is no fun at all and I'm okay with a few days early if that's what baby chooses!

  • Well, I know for sure we are staying home... Both of our families live across the country, and there is no way I am going to get on a plane when I'm 36 weeks.  We've invited people to come here, but I'm not sure if anyone will.  Honestly, it will probably end up being an "orphans' Thanksgiving" with some friends, or maybe even just the two of us.  Either way, it's fine.  We'll have a lot to be thankful for this year.
