My mom has always taken care of DS, but now that DS is more active she can't get anything done around her house during the week and needs at least one weekday to run her errands, etc. So, DH and I are looking for childcare 1-2 days per week and need some help putting together a list of questions to ask the childcare providers we're interviewing. I'm hoping my fellow AP-mommas can help me...TIA!
Re: Childcare - what to ask when interviewing a new provider?
Haven't done it yet, but this is my list
-Are you infant cpr trained?
-What vaccines are required for children and workers? (I'm overly paranoid about pertussis)
- child:worker ratio
-cost, of course
-What do they do during the day with the children, is it structured or free play mostly?
-Are drop in visits allowed? (this would be a requirement for me, I lack trust of people I don't know)
- Who provides the food?
-I would also suggest for you to look at some mother's day out programs, my friend exclusively uses them for her LOs and has been very satisfied
-What outdoor space is available?
-How is discipline handled?
-How do they deal with biters-again, I'm paranoid
-Are you allowed any weeks off w/o paying tuition for vacations, etc
-Are cloth diapers allowed (if you use them)
In addition to the above:
-do you follow a specific schedule or can a baby be on their own
-are there any weapons in the house and how are the secured (we are in a very liberal state as far as fire arms so Im paranoid)
-are there any pets? How are the kept/are they kept from the children
