Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Has anyone taken LO to Build a Bear?

We got $50 gift cert. for BaB for a birthday present.  H and I were planning on taking the girls there today, but they have never been.  Is Kate too young for it, have any of you experienced it with a one year old?  We plan on taking her and maybe just having her make the smaller less expensive bear so that Bailey can use the majority of the gift card to dress up and accessorize her stuffed animal.  Is that horrible?  I just don't think Kate will really get it the way Bailey will.

Also, I have looked for in store printable coupons but cannot find them anywhere, anyone know of some? TIA

  • I would do a small bear. DH and I laugh every time we pass that store, because SIL and BIL INSISTED they must take their 1.5 year old there. Well, he's not going to remember it and I would want to wait till their older and can participate more. Do the small bear and let older sis use the card!!

  • Yes. My mom and I were at the mall one weekend and we went in because A was ALL about it. My mom made her a bunny. It was only like $20 and we didn't put clothes or anything on it. Just something cute for her to have really at this point, ya know?

  • Emmalee got a Build a Bear for her 1st bday. Some of my relatives on the east coast went and made it for her, but she loves it. It has a recording of the family telling her happy birthday as well as a song it plays. That bear is what got her into liking stuffed animals and dolls. So while she didn't do the whole experience, she will always have the bear.
  • We took ours at 17 months as a special gift from DH before he deployed.  They loved it.  They picked out their own, helped make them, put the hearts in the animals (though I know they had no clue what that meant), and just absolutely love those animals.  DD sleeps with her bunny, and DS with his puppy, every night.  They drag them around the house, they know that "Dada" gave them those animals, and they're the only stuffed animals that they show any attachment to.  I don't think they were too young to get anything out of the experience.  I do think they would have been too young right at a year though (seriously they start to understand soooo much more in a short amount of time) so if the GC doesn't expire for a while I'd maybe wait 3-6 months to take her so she understands it better.

I don't think they expire, but Bailey has been talking about making her bear for the past couple of days.  H is going out of town tomorrow for at least a week up to a month and Bailey does not do very well when he is gone, so we wanted to do something special with her today and it's been raining all day, so nothing outside.   If it goes over really well we might do it again around Christmas time and then Kate will "get it" a little more.  But that is so cool how they got so attached to the animals your LOs got from their dad.

You're from Texas. We took DS when we accepted an offer on our house, so we knew we were moving out of state. They had a longhorn at the time, so that's what we made with/for him. No clothes or anything. I just wanted something to take with us that was "Texas" and would be with him for a long time. $20 for a huge longhorn was way cheaper than some toy store stuffed animal. But, you might be an Aggie fan, so that might not be an option for you guys:)

  • We also got a gc for their 1st bday & we took them but they did not partake... they couldn't really choose the animal, clothes or even push the button (we sort of tried to have DS do it though) to stuff the animals.

The animals we did are really cute though & we made them really soft ones with clothes we thought were kind of good for them- since they aren't really into any particular theme, we did a track suit on a dog & a tie dye shirt & jeans on a bunny.

  • My LO is a St. Patrick's Day baby.  Build a Bear had a special bear with 4 leaf clovers, so we went for his 1st birthday.  He wasn't really into the experience.  I just held him while the lady made the bear.  We did get 1 accessory, a little cell phone, because DS loved it.  Now that he's a little older, he loves the bear, and pushes his paws for the sounds by himself.  I think it was a fun experience and memory for us, but he didn't get it at all.  I don't know how long we'll wait to do it again.
