New to The Bump

new and nervous :)

My husband and I are TTC (if I use an abbreviation wrong I am sure someone will tell me...right?). We have bought our first home, are working to keep debt at bay, and working on getting our savings account built up. Things are looking good so far. I have lost 50+ pounds over the last year and have a little more to go but am blessed to be healthy and excited to get pregnant. I am an open book so ask anything! So glad I have this community available to me and DH.

Thanks y'all!

Hi Lauren! May i suggest that you sign up to fertility friend... you can get to it by clicking on my ticker. It's been one of hte most valuable tools in my TTC process. You'll see most all of the girls on the TTGP boards use it- i can't stress enough how important it is in the process.

Good luck on your journey!! :) Hope you get pregnant soon

  • Thanks so much. I just got signed up with them and I am trying to figure that all out. I have felt a bit lost in all the information but it is so exciting. I am trying to figure out the charts and what it all means. I am taking my temp and charting/documenting everything. It seemed like a lot of work at first but everyday I learn a little more and get more excited.
  • It can be overwhelming at first- but it truly isnt.

So the reason it's suggested that you take your tempature first thing every morning (before you even get out of bed) is because this is the only way you'll know if and when you're ovulating.  When i found this out, seriously, i thought i discovered the secret to our bodies.

If you look at my chart (not this month, last month) you can see i temped everyday. When you see the crosshairs, that's the day i ovulated... I had a temp spike for three consecutive days... The day before the first spike- is the day you ovulate. When you ovulate, the hormones that are running through your body raise your temp... and your temp will stay elevated until you get your period... or better yet- they'll remain elevated through your pregnancy :)

You can buy OPK's to try and catch your surge... this will be the warning sign that tells you you may ovulate soon.... these tests do not tell you that you are ovulating though... you can get a positive OPK and still not ovulate.

Temping is important because so many woman have anovulatory cycles (they dont ovulate)... and if they werent temping, the wouldnt know.
Also, it helps you maxamize your chances of getting pregnant because you can time intercourse perfectly. (ideal times are 3 days before, day of, and day after)

It's also helpful to wake up the day your period is due and see that your temp just dropped... it saves $$ on buying pregnancy tests...

The website is also helpful charting your symptoms... I never knew i felt the things i did when i was ovulating... i never ever noticed them... until, of course, i started TTC.  The first month was brutal because i was feeling all these "new" things and i swore i was pregnant.
But after the first month of charting, you'll see your pattern, and you wont be that crazy anymore ....not as much, at least :)

Anyhow, i rambled enough... if you have any questions, send me a message- i'll be happy to help ya.
Come on over to the trying to get pregnant board- i'll see ya there!

  • Congrats on losing the weight...what a great accomplishment! DH and I were TTC for almost a year before first getting a BFP. I did everything from taking my temp to charting days, but for us, we got pregnant the very first month we committed to trying every other day without fail. Yes it was tiring (LOL) but so worth it! Good luck!
