Bummed about the Infertilty Diet Book

i had DH stop off at B&N on his way home to pick up a copy of "The Infertility Diet" and within 10 pages i read something like this: "we can safely say that the recommendations in this book won't help for people whose issues are blocked fallopian tubes or the man's ejaculate is devoid of active sperm cells." check one for me, one for DH. awesome, we're returning it.

i'm going to order "The Infertility Cure" on amazon because i've seen other ladies on here say they like it. any other ideas? i'll also comb through to find a post i saw yesterday from thebeadinglady...

EDIT: the post was from thebeadinglady, not yellow_daisy :)

Re: Bummed about the Infertilty Diet Book

  • I love "The Infertility Cure" - but again - not sure it will do much for blocked tubes or no sperm. I have endo - so there are definitely things about it - it's mostly diet, herbs, yoga - seemed that they could make sense for me.

    2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!

  • I don't think any of the books are going to "cure" or help with your specific diagnosis.  However, they won't help ours either, being that it is a chromosomal defect, but I follow the diet for a couple other reasons related to IF.

    1. To help with egg quality

    2. Because my acu thinks that following a particular diet helps achieve and maintain pregnancy

    3. For weightloss and overall good eating habits

I hope that helps.  FWIW I really like The Infertility Cure because it is more than diet.  They talk about breathing techniques, self acupuncture, herbs and diet.  They also talk about traditional chinese medicine. Some of the stuff doesn't apply to me and DH specifically but overall I have found it to be a good book worth reading and I am glad that my acu gave it to me and suggested it.

  • I know the feeling, I had all of these grand ideas about how I could do things to help our cycle with diet etc.

And I was let down to, bc w MFI my diet can't give DH sperm.  My acu just has me focus on relaxing etc, bc there really isn't much else I can do.

I am trying to be healthy, bc I hate to feel like I can't do anything :(
