Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Follow up after v. early m/c?

Blood work confirmed that I had an early m/c this week.  My levels on Wednesday were 6.2 (very low,I know), and I had bleeding yesterday and today.

This is my first known pregnancy, and my doctor's office hasn't been very helpful (I will be looking for a new doctor very soon).  Given that this was so early, is there any aftercare I need to have?  Should I have my levels measured again?   Since this was my first experience with anything pregnancy related, I am not sure what to do.  Maybe I don't need to do anything.

Thanks, ladies, for the advice.

Re: Follow up after v. early m/c?

  • You have to make sure you pass everything and that the m/c completes on it's own. Is that your hcg level? How early on were you? I m/c at 10 weeks and have had to have blood work done 4 times to make sure my numbers keep dropping and that all the tissue comes out on it's own so that I don't have to have a d&c. From what I understand if you just recently discovered you were pregnant and then m/c you will have less tissue that has developed and may not have that much that needs to come out so you might not need as much follow-up but you definitely will need some.

  • First - I am so very sorry for your loss.

The standard of care is to monitor hcg levels back to 0.

Most offices are fine with getting below 5.  You're close.

I think I'd request a follow up beta in another week just for peace of mind but at this point with a level of 6.2 and a very early loss it's highly improbable that you'll see any further problems (physically) from this experience.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
