Cloth Diapering

options to remove poop...

So are the only options to either swish or spray? I ff my dd and just started rice cereal, so her bm's arent that solid yet, I am using prefolds and have been swishing, but I just ordered some pockets and it seems like it wouldn't be as easy to swish..am i wrong? Thanks for your advice!!

Re: options to remove poop...

  • I used disposable liners for that phase.  They didn't catch it all, but it did catch most of it.  Drop the liner and poop in toilet and flush.  If there were any bigger pieces left on diaper, then I would use a bit of TP to get it off.

I have rarely swished a diaper in the toilet.  If I have to swish a pocket, then I remove the insert first and just swish the shell.

ETA:  With the flushable liner we used, I was able to hand wash the ones that just had pee on them and re-use them another time.

  • I used a flushable liner when starting solids, liquid soaks through to diaper, but solids stay in the liner, just pull it out and flush.  Keeps the diapers nice & clean.  Another option is to scrape.  Keep a plastic knife or something near the toilet and scrape the poop into the toilet.  It doesn't need to be completely clean, the rest will come out in the wash.

  • We went ahead and installed a diy diaper sprayer. It works really well- the water pressure is more than enough to remove the solid poop.

  • DS has been on solids for over a month, but his poop still isn't very solid. I'm using prefolds and I'm not doing anything special at all. No liners, no swishing. I do notice that I have a little more staining than usual, but I don't care about that, I'll just sun it out when the time comes to resell.

  • The disposabel liners work FABULOUSLY!  Not sure what brand I have since my friend gave them to me.  But most the time, the poop doesn't even go through the liner at ALL!  i just pull the liner off, put in toilet, DONE!  LOVE IT!
