So at the one year appt. the dr. asked me if my daughter was pointing yet, and I said no but she sometimes reaches her hand out at things. So he said it will be soon then. Well now if I ask her where things are, etc. she will still reach her entire hand out instead of pointing. I tried showing her to use her finger etc., but I guess she doesn't get it yet. Any thoughts?
Your doc. is right.. it will happen soon. DS was pointing with his hand for so long and just 2 months ago while we were reading a book, i asked him where the doggie was and he pointeed to it. DS still points with his hand but uses his pointer finger sometimes
My DD is the same age and uses her whole hand to 'point' too. I've been trying to point a little more myself to show her how to do it, but she hasn't caught on yet.

Re: pointing with whole hand and not finger
My DD1 did the whole-hand-point too. She didn't really point until 15 months or so.
She'll get it eventually - no big deal
