I called the pedi about it today and she said that they usually don't do anything to treat it as long as it is getting good blood flow and not causing any discomfort. She also said that they usually go away on their own, but surgery is an option if it begins to cause problems. It just looks so weird and like it would hurt, that I feel bad. Anyone else have a LO with a hernia?
Re: DS has an umbilical hernia :(
I do, but I'm not worried about it at all.
My LO had a right inguinal hernia and he had to have surgery on it right away for fear it was congesting his right testical. It was a quick surgery and he's recovered AMAZINGLY...took him about a day to be back to his normal self. He goes back in December after all the swelling is gone to re-assess the area but thus far everything is good. It was a crappy couple of days seeing LO in the hospital with an IV in
It is the most common surgery performed in LO's worldwide though, according to DS's surgeon. Good luck and keep an eye on it!
Thanks!!

Yes, my LO has a huge one. And it will get worse before it gets better... Don't be afraid to push it back in to make sure that he's not getting gas bubbles trapped in there, I normally check my LOs once or twice a day. At its worse it stuck out about an inch or more and I was so freaked out, now it only sticks out maybe a 1/4 inch and its getting better every day.
Same with DS. Our pedi said they generally resolve within a year.
