When was your first dr. appt?

I got my BFP yesterday and I called my Dr. right away to schedule an appointment. They asked when my LMP was and I said June 17. I have no had a period since going off BCP. Although, I finally just ovulated 2 weeks ago. They had an appoitment for today and I am going at 2:00. It seems like this is really early for a first appt, after looking at others posts. Am I wasting my time going this early? TIA!

Re: When was your first dr. appt?

  • I got my BFP 9/11, called yesterday and they said they usually make the first appts for around 8 weeks.  So I am going 10/11.  They told me it's just the med history appt with the nurse (see post below).

  • I had my first appoitment yesterday at 13 dpo, and my next is on the 22nd. Every doctor's office handles pregnancy differently. Possibly because of your long cycle they want to confirm. I know I am h/r so I got in sooner then someone who isn't.

  • I have my first appt with my Dr. on Sept 25th and Oct 7th we meet the nurse practicioner to go over medical history and then our first u/s.

  • It depends on what your physician's protocol is for prenatal appointments - everyone does them differently.

Did they tell you what will happen at this appointment?

I got my BFP on Friday 8/27 and called for an appointment on the following Monday 8/30 - they actually had me come in that day just to do a blood test to confirm the pregnancy.

I had my "first appointment" last week at 5w4d and it was just a meeting with the nurse to go over medical histories and do blood work.

My next appointment, with the actual OB, is next week when I will be 7w1d for an exam and pap smear.

  • Unless you are high risk, my OBs don't want to see you until around9-10 weeks for your first appointment.  They want to make sure there's a viable baby w/heartbeat... that doesn't usually happen until around 6 or 7w.
  • i'm high risk - so i had an u/s right away.  but i think with my first pregnancy it was around 7 weeks or so.

  • My LMP was July 15, so they scheduled me for last week considering it eight weeks, but discovered I was measuring behind because I probably ovulated late. I have a feeling I ovulated around August 16, so I am going off that date. I still felt good seeing the doctor that early, especially because I had some scary bleeding the day after my bfp.

  • I had a total fluke of a coincidental annual 2 days after I got a BFP. So they did the half of the first appointment then, and I have another October 5th for the more traditional 8 weeks stats appointment.
  • I went to see the OB/GYN at 4W6D because my primary care (who confirmed the BFPs the week before) said I may be high risk due to the stroke I had when I was 18. So off I went yesterday to see the doc and I'm due to go again for the sonogram at 7W0D (three weeks from yesterday). So, no, I wouldn't worry too much about going early. Every doctor is different.

  • My first appointment was last week and that's just medical history and BW. They don't have a first 'real' visit until 12wks.
Your OBGYNs office is probably bringing you in sooner because of how long ago your LMP occurred. Most people don't know when they ovulate, so most doctors just go by LMP, thus you being much further along than you probably are (from what you say).

  • I have an appt with my PCP today, I need a referral to OB since I have tricare...by the time I get my referral I may be 10-12 weeks before my 1st appt with an OB...it's gonna be a long waiting game.
