1. If SR has ever been discussed with you, do you know who would do the procedure? Would it be the RE or would you be sent to a different doc?
2. Who stores left over embryos? I assume your RE doesn't have them stored, do you find some sort of storage bank?
Couple things I've been wondering for personal reasons that I'm not ready to get into.
ETA: I'm not pg. It seems like a poster or two may have thought that I was looking for recommendations. I can nearly guarantee that I will never be pg with multiples again.
Re: 2 semi-IF related questions - SR and left over embies
1. My RE brought up SR as soon as we saw 3 heartbeats. I think it is a standard discussion with HOMs. SR was not an option for us due to our religious beliefs. However, of it were an option, a Peri would have done it as you cannot reduce until around 12ish weeks. SR is not something an RE would do.
2. My clinic stores embryos on site but some clinics send them to off-site storage. Either way, storage is usually something that the clinic takes care of after your payment has been received - meaning it isn't your responsiblity to make storage arrangements.

Our RE recommended we see a specialist in NYC (about 4 hours from us) when we found out we were preg with 3. We lost one at 7 weeks so we never had to discuss it any further.
Our RE has a contract with a storage bank that they use.
2 chem preg, 4 failed IUIs, 2 canc IVFs, 2 BFN IVFs, IVF #5 = BFP!!!
3/23 Beta #1 @ 17dpo = 913, Beta #2 @ 19dpo = 1724, Beta #3 @ 21 dpo = 3240
First u/s 3/29 @ 5 weeks 2 days - 3 sacs 6 weeks 3 days - 3 heartbeats 8 Weeks - Lost Baby C, Babies A and B going strong
Selective reduction was something brought up to us at my 8 week u/s. Until then the RE was thinking one or more would reduce themselves but it didn't happen. He gave me all the facts on SR as well as the fact that it could cause me to lose all 4 of them. After 10 years of IF I was not willing to take that risk. When I moved onto the MFM OB he did my N/T scan and discussed my options again. I knew from day one I would not reduce but they still need to give you those options. I had a very uneventful pregnancy and gave birth to 4 healthy babies. I know there are plenty of stories that don't end as well but there are many that do.
As for storage, we have our frozen embies at the RE's office.
1. Our MFM said he would do a SR if we wanted to do that. We opted not to.
2. n/a
1. We talked about SR prior to doing our IVF cycle, so our RE knew our feelings on it before we started the cycle. Because we knew we'd not choose SR, we only put back 2 embryos, rather than possibly bumping up to 3 for our cycle. We knew we were fine with twins, could handle trips, and would take it one day at a time for more than that if the situation came about.
2. Our clinic stores on-site until you have a healthy baby in arms. Then we had the option of continuing to store on site (600/yr) or send the frosties to a storage facility for longer term storage (350/yr). We've gone with the longer term storage as we know we're looking at a minimum of 2 years before we'd do anything with our frosties.
1. SR never came up for us, but after fighting IF and being desperate for a child, it's not something DH and I would have done. We only transferred 2 embies and yes, I knew they could have both split, but I would have attempted to carry quads, if that would've happened.
2. Our fertility clinic is storing our four frozen embies.
6 IUIs,IVF #1 w/ICSI = BFP!
Betas, 332 & 856 = twins!
Our baby girl is here!
1. Another doctor would have performed SR. There is one doctor in the area who was recommended. She would conduct a telephone consultation, and if we decided to move forward, we'd schedule the procedure. We were also strongly advised to talk to a therapist before deciding about SR. An OB or Fertility Clinic might have referrals.
2. The two fertility clinics we worked with did their own storage. We didn't end up with embryos to store after 2
1. The RE does not do it, a peri will. Find a peri with a lot of experience.
2. I'm pretty sure my RE uses a bank, not at the actual RE.
