Bottles, So Many Options...

The bottle situation has me perplexed. I plan to hopefully breastfeed but realize things don't always work out.  I was planning on having a few bottles on hand but unsure of what to go with?  I liked the idea of glass, but super expensive.  Then I looked into Tom Tipee, but was $17.99 for 2 bottles!  I find this price a little expensive for plastic bottles.  What bottles have you used with success or register for?

  • I used Playtex DropIns with DS and will with this one. You are able to burp the air out of the bottle and clean up was easy with them.

  • We registered for Tommee Tippee and a couple of Avent ones just in case LO doesn't take to the Tommee Tippee. Hopefully he likes them, as people have already purchased them all off our registry!

ETA: The newborn starter set isn't all that expensive, and it comes with a lot. When you look at the 2 bottle sets, I think they are expensive. I went with the 3 bottle sets and the starter kit. Hopefully we'll have all we need.

  • I am completely confused too, so I'm glad you asked. I'm gonna have to follow this. Originally, I was gonna use the Playtex Drop- Ins, but I was thinking about the price of the liners (even the generic ones) and it seems like they will end up being really expensive. I'm gonna breastfeed, but when I go back to school in January, baby will be with someone else, so obviously I'll have to pump and use bottles for that. So, I have no clue. Anyone else who has experience with the Drop-Ins, did you find it to be expensive with the liners?
  • I'm using the Tom Tipee.  BRU has a starter pack with 6 plain bottles for $30 and they always have coupons.  The pink or blue were 2 for $17.99, so I just put 1 pack on my registry.

  • Ok, I'll contribute to this debate.  Obviously, EVERYONE is going to chime in saying my LO liked this bottle, wouldn't take this bottle etc. Here's what I found through my research:  some bottles are better for breastfeeders.  Some are:

    -First Years Breastflow

    -Born Free

    -Avent Tempo

    *Platex Nursers

I decided on the First Years Breastflow.  On BRU you can see it has a special nipple and LO has to suck similarly as if it were a nipple.  Yes, bottles are expensive, and every LO is different, so I rec. only registering for 2 anyway until you see how he likes it.  Remember, they're only supposed to be at the breast anyway for the first couple of weeks.

  • I registered for the Avent ones, with the idea of using the drop-ins if those don't work out well for us.  Most of our friends have had success with both, so I think that's a good plan/back-up plan.

We too are going to BF, so we'll see what happens.  :)

  • We are using Playtex drop-ins. All my SILs loved them. I know that might be expensive, but I like the idea of not needing to only sterilize nipples and not bottles.

  • I registered for the playtex ventaire.  The nipples are supposed to be close to natural shaped and are good for breastfed babies.  Hopefully, they work out.

  • I plan on using the Dr. Brown's wide bottles.. they're supposed to be good for breastfed babies.. I hope to breastfeed and bottlefeed.. the only negatives I've ever heard about Dr. Brown's bottles is that there are "too many" parts to clean.  I know this won't bug me, so I'm going for it and hoping LO takes.  my mom so gently put it "when you were a baby I just didn't give you a choice and you did fine"   I think this is a valid point.  even tho every baby will prefer a different bottle I really believe that to an extent you just have to pick one and run with it.

  • I followed my sisters' suggestions & registered for mostly Dr. Browns bottles, plus nipples of varying flows for different ages. I also registered for the Medela gift set to go with my Medela pump.
