ECV w/ anterior placenta...advice please!

Hi ladies...I am posting this before work so I will be back later with questions when I can sneak on while at work! My LO has been breech and in the exact same position for over 8 weeks confirmed by numerous u/s. Yesterday at 36wks2dys, he is still breech. My Dr recommends I try an ECV and said I need to make a decision by my next appt which I will be 37wks4dys so if baby is still breech, I will be having the procedure at over 38wks. He said success rate is 50/50 and risks of anything serious happening are less than 1% but that they do it in the hospital just in case so they could perform emergency c-section if necessary. I am totally freaked out by the idea of having an ECV especially since LO's head is right behind the placenta! I am also terrified of the shot they give you that causes uterus to relax because the side effects cause heart rate increase and shaking...which I know will cause me to go into panic mode (I cant even get novocain shots anymore at the dentist because it causes my heart rate to sky rocket)! I would REALLY appreciate any feedback from you ladies who have had the procedure done (esp w/ anterior placenta) wether or not it was successful. TIA!!!

Re: ECV w/ anterior placenta...advice please!

  • I'm right there with you... I have an anterior placenta and my baby has been flipping between oblique and transverse.  LO likes to lay right behind my placenta!  My midwife said with an ECV it doesn't really matter if the placenta is anterior or posterior either way the baby is hitting it with an ECV.  Same risk either way I guess... I'm curious to what others have heard/experienced though!  Here's hoping your baby turns!  I am hearing so many women whos baby did not flip until 38-39 weeks even day before they when into labor naturally. Good Luck!!!

  • I had the procedure done at 37 weeks.  I have a bicornuate uterus and there aren't any stats for people with the condition I have.  My Dr. told me the success rate for a regular uterus was about 75%.  I had to have a spinal due to the type of uterus I have, as well as a shot of tubertiline (sorry for mis spelling).  Unfortunately she didn't turn and I'm having a c/s in 6 days.  I was in the hospital for a total of 7 hours, prep, procedure and post.  I was there longer then usual because I had to wait for my spinal to wear off.  I also got the shakes and was extremely itchy from the spinal so I was given benadryl through my IV and that made me extremely drowsy!!

The procedure wore me out, mainlly due to the spinal because I was in pain for 2 days from the shot but I would try it again if it meant I didn't have to have a c/s !

    Good luck to you!
