my little guy doesn't say many words. he babbles ALOT, and "grunts" (if that makes sense). pediatrician recommended getting evaluated by a speech therapist at his 18 month checkup. i decided to hold off for 2 months hoping for improvement.. not so much has changed. he's hit all other milestones, very happy, follows directions (so not a hearing issue), can identify objects, etc. just doesn't talk much.
Re: How many words is your 20 month old saying?
My DD had about 50-60 words at that age.
No harm in contacting EI to either ease your mind or get the services he needs. GL
3! He's going to be seen next week, actually. His receptive language is great. he knows a lot, follows commands, etc. But he just won't TALK.
We do some sign language w/ him, but it's minima. We taught him about 5 signs, he's made up a couple of his own - but that's it.
I just hope they can give me tips on how to get him to talk!

My DD#1 only had about 10-15 but my DD#2 is fulling talking now at 20 months. She says 4-5 word sentences. Crazy.
It wouldn't hurt to get him screened. Good Luck!

Like Kathryn, Paige wasn't saying much at 18 months maybe 10-15 words. Then she started daycare and within the past 3 months so can count to 3, is starting to learn colors, knows animal sounds, even knows what sound a pirate makes.... I couldn't begin to count the number of words she knows now at 21 months.
