If you ERF, a ?

DD is 2 and is still RF in her car seat. However, she is really little, which is why I chose to keep her RF for now. Unfortunately, she is a pill to get into her seat nowadays. She puts her feet at the base of the car seat/back of the seat and is stiff as a board so you can't buckle her in. It's a constant battle, and one I am not at all fond of.

She is FF in DH's car because the seat we have for her in there fits better FF. She only rides in there 1x/week.

So, I am thinking of switching her to FF. She can't play her little game if FF, and I am sick of trying, especially in the morning when I am trying to get to work. Also, during those rainy times, I cannot stand the wet/dirty feet all over the seat of the car.

Would you turn her around? I know this is a personal decision, but I was wondering what others thought. What prompted you to turn your DC?

Re: If you ERF, a ?

  • How much does she weigh?
  • Loading the player...
  • Does it happen everytime she is buckled in?  I ERF Claire untill she was 31lbs and 3 1/2 years old.  I think it's great that you ERF!!
  • She only weighs 23 lbs. She does this almost every time we get in, and of course, it's usually when I am rushed (probably related, huh?). I think she thinks it's funny. I have tried having DH put her in, walking away from her and putting DS in first, etc., but she still does it.
  • does she fuss and cause trouble when she is all buckled in and on the road?

I would personally switch her.  we didn't have your problem, we just had ds and couldn't fit both carseats in the car RF'ing... so dd went to ff.  she was only 21 lb at age 2.  at 4 1/2 she's only 32 or 33 lb. she'll be in her carseat forever

  • DD used to fuss once buckled in when she was in her infant seat, but not since she's been in the convertible.

I like that she and DS are facing each other in their seats so they can entertain each other... I am thinking like you, Halo... maybe switching her... IDK, DH is on the fence too.

  • We switched DS at 21 months when he was melting down hard on a long trip. It fixed the temper tantrums.

DD is 21 months now, 34.5 inches and 28.5 lbs, and I am thinking of switching her soon. It's getting to be a battle to get her into the seat, and she's having fits that she can't see what her brother sees.

  • Good for you for keeping her RF this long.

My DS was RF until he was 3.5.  He did the same thing as your DD for a while. I got him a toy for the car and he could only play with it once he was buckled.  That worked for a while and broke the cycle of fighting the car seat.

I would keep her RF, but I understand you not wanting to have to fight every day.

  • No, definitely not. Carseat safety is not something they get to have control over. M does what you're describing, and I've never even thought to turn her around because of it. Bella did that for a month or so, but she outgrew it and then went in willingly. She's still RF at 3.5 and hasn't given me grief in a long time (about the carseat, she gives me grief lots of other times!). When M stiffens up like that, I just tell her buckling up is not an option, and bend her legs by pressing under her knees and pushing down on her lap.
