I see folks are starting their birthing classes and I wanted to share this. We took the one offered by my OB's office. There were about 10 other couples in the class. When we started going over the breathing techniques, I asked the nurse teaching the class what exactly is the breathing supposed to do? Everyone in the class looked at me like I was crazy. I wasn't sure if they already knew, or just thought it was weird that someone would question why you would breathe that way. I'm sorry, but I liked to know why I'm huffing and puffing to know if it's working, TYVM.
Re: Funny birth class story (from last pregnancy)
It's to distract you from the pain. You concentrate on the pattern instead of the contraction, so you don't fight the contraction.
