3rd Trimester

How many BHs a day?

My dr told me that as long as I don't have more than 4 contractions an hour, I'm fine. But I wanted to know how many braxton hicks contractions in an entire day is considered normal.

Last night I had 5 or 6 in about 90 minutes, plus 3-4 throughout the day. Today I've probably already had 6 or 7 throughout the day. Is that normal?

Re: How many BHs a day?

  • Just depends on your body-

I have had BH with both pregnancies pretty much EVERY day. and especially a ton at night. So I get them all the time. They are not timeable, they are not painful and they go away when i ease up on my activity and drink water and lay down. My dr knows this- so I don't call with them unless I can't get them to stop-

  • It's hard to say what's normal. The amount you have is dependent on so many different things! Example: I was just hospitalized for severe dehydration, and I get BH's all the time. Sometimes more than 4 per hour. But a lot of it is due to the dehydration.

So, if you think you are having too many, you might want to consider things like how much water you are drinking, etc.

This has nothing to do with BH's, but Stacy! Your daughter is insanely adorable and her name fits her perfectly. I just had to say that :)

I actually went to the ER a week ago with really bad back and stomach pain. Turns out I was having contractions which they siad were due to dehydration. Since then I've been drinking a ton of water and trying to rest. It's just that my stomach hurts almost all day and I don't know how much of it is related to the contractions or if it's just muscle pain from carrying her and everything stretching out.

aww you are so sweet. thank you. Very kind. Gisele was my MIL's name. She passed away before i met her. Pretty much from the very beginning of dating DH we knew we would name our DD Gisele- now this one is a boy and we STILL do not agree on a name. lol

I have a irritable uterus.  I have a ton of contractions all day long.  They always tell you to drink more water but with my condition it actually gives me more contractions the fuller my bladder is....boo.  Dont worry about how many you have all day its mostly the consistent hourly count that matters :)

  • I have heard this 4/hr rule from so many people, but I have had that several times in the last few weeks, as well as BH at least 1-3/hr most hours of some days!

So I asked my doctor a few days ago if it was OK, explaining that they don't hurt or really bother me, I was just wondering if that many BHs in a day is OK, and she said that it is totally normal at this stage of the pregnancy and not to worry.
