need some help choosing ..

okay, so i'm having some last minute changes on the nursery furniture. the set that i want is the convertible crib, a 5 drawer dresser, and a combo 3 drawer dresser. i am contemplating on skipping the 5 drawer (tall) dresser, and getting a cubbie bookcase, with little pink and green box inserts sporadically in it, instead. which do you think would be better? not getting the 5 drawer dresser and getting one of the bookcases? or keeping the 5 drawer dresser and NOT getting the bookcase? also which bookcase do you prefer? (hope this is not too all over the place!!!)

this is the 5 drawer dresser (the one i'm thinking about not getting):

this is the combo 3 drawer dresser (for sure getting, for the changing pad station):

the bookcases i'm thinking about are between the two of these:

  • I would get the dresser if you have clothing storage problems like we do.  If not so much, then one of the bookcases- probably the smaller one. :) Very cute though!

  • I like the 3 drawer dresser and the bookcase. I think I like the bigger one better, but it's really about what you have room for. It will look cute with the pink and green boxes.

  • I think it all depends on your storage needs.  Do you have a lot of clothes and linens that you don't want to get dusty and want closed storage for?  We have one dresser which is also going to be our changing station.  DH installed a closet organizer in the closet with 3 additional drawers and several shelves.  If you go with the shelves, I like the first one.  Maybe you can find some fabric baskets to put in the cubbies so you can still hide clutter.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • there is a closet in the room with with 3 side shelves, and 1 long shelf, plus the crib has a small pull out drawer for storage, then of course the combo 3 drawer dresser. so that's enough room, right? then with the little drawers for the cubbie i figure folded things can go in them, and the ones without the little drawers can have decorative items? i don't know .. i cant decide. lol.

  • With all of the storage that you just said I think the 3-drawer dresser will be enough withouth the 5-drawer dresser.  By the way, we just bought the smaller Ikea cubby unit this weekend in natural and it took DH about 5 minutes to put together and I love it!

  • I like the second dresser/changing table the best. Shorter and longer is better. Be very careful with tall dressers and shelving units. Once your LO is old enough they'll pull out the drawers and climb up causing the piece to fall over on them. This happened to my sister when she was 4, luckily the piece was shoty and pretty much shattered on impact, but she still had a huge knot on her head.
