I am 26 weeks pregnant and really want to do prenatal yoga. I went to a class tonight at a studio in Chevy Chase and it was definitely not for beginners. I have not done yoga in the past. I live in Bethesda, any reccomondations?
Holy Cross Hospital offers classes. They are listed on their website. I didn't do Yoga but I did a stretch and tone with the same woman that teaches yoga and I liked her. I think it would definitely be something that's geared a bit more towards beginners. The stretch and tone class definitely wasn't strenuous and everyone was encouraged to go at their own pace.
If Takoma Park/Silver Spring isn't too far of a drive for you, I loved my classes at Willow Street yoga. The class with Lucy was very gentle, and the class with Carrie was more challenging and empowering. I liked them both but preferred Carrie's class (but I had taken yoga before).
You should probably call around to a few places first and get their opinion on starting a yoga practice at 26 weeks. Some places will warmly welcome you and have a class geared towards women with similar desires and needs, but other places may be a bit hesitant. For instance, I just started at a new studio, and even though I have an advanced yoga practice, the teacher told me that she was not comfortable with me in her class and that I should come back to a pre-natal class.
Good luck! It really is a great practice to have while pregnant!

I called around and checked out several classes before I landed with the prenatal yoga video by Shiva Rea. I think it is fabulous, and MUCH cheaper than the classes. I like that I can pop it in and do as much as I have energy for whenever I am in the mood. Saturday and Sunday mornings have been my "regular" sessions, but I also like to just start some of the stretching and relaxation portions when I am feeling particularly tense. You might want to check it out.
