2nd Trimester

Ugh! Can't sleep after peeing at night!

Does anyone have this problem as well?  During the first trimester i would just get up 3 or 4 times during the night to pee, but i had no probems getting back to sleep.  Now i get up maybe once or twice but i can't fall asleep afterwards!  Last night i went to bed at 10, got up at 12:30 to pee, and then stayed awake for the next 4 and a half hours!  It's a good thing i don't have to go to work early today...

  • I have had this as well.  I hate getting up to pee because I never know if I'll be able to get back to sleep.  If I can't sleep after twenty minutes of laying there, I'll get up and go watch a really boring television show until I'm adequately sleepy again.  I've also heard that half a banana is good for putting you to sleep but I haven't tried that. Good luck.  It sucks not being able to sleep as much as you need right now.

  • I have to get up a few times but I'm able to get back to sleep pretty quickly.  Are you a reader?  Sometimes if I can't sleep I can read a few pages of a book and it puts me back to sleep....

  • I went through a phase where this happened to me. It lasted about 3 weeks and I *hated* it! I would wake up between 12:30 and 3 to use the restroom and once I did, I was up. I spent my Saturdays sleeping until noon trying to "catch up" as much as I could from the week before.

Hopefully yours will go away too. I still have some trouble sleeping, but it's mostly due to comfort issues now that I'm getting bigger. Good luck!

  • Yep, I definitely have this issue.  I'm a night owl, so going back to sleep is not the issue, it's falling to sleep around 12:30 that's the issue for me.  But if I do get up to pee around 2 or 3 it is hard for me to go back to sleep also.

  • I also went through this phase, but like the PP, it went away after a couple weeks (the sleeplessness, not the getting up to pee).  Hopefully it will for you too!

  • Oh yes! It has been a source of frustration for me as well. It seems to be tapering down though. I can at least wake up and go back to sleep now most nights. There are still times (like this past weekend) where I'll be up at 3 and stay up til 6 when I'm able to fall back asleep. Good luck, I hope it gets better for you.

  • I've found that leaving all the lights off works for me.  I've only got about 7 steps between my side of the bed and the toilet, though.  I must admit that I've dozed back off while peeing on more than one occasion, but at least I'm not super-tired in the morning!

  • Oh yea!  Right there with you!!  I agree about leaving the lights off, definately helps.  Now at 24 weeks, it is just getting worse with me.  I will get up to pee, get a drink..."oh, who left this out?  I need to remember to take care of ____ tomorrow. *pet the cat that is now awake and hungry* As long as I'm having a drink, this plant needs watering......"  And so on.  Now the brain is going full speed and I will never get back to sleep.  Usually have one good nights sleep (can get back and drift off immediately) and one scatterbrained night.  Off and on, off and on.  I hate it!

  • To combat this I try to do as little as possible when I get up to avoid waking myself up too much. I don't lie there too long wondering if I really have to pee, I just get up, don't turn on lights (just the slight light from the GFI outlet is enough to keep me from falling in), sometimes don't even flush because the loud sound will wake up the dogs and myself more.  Then climb back into bed and usually fall right back asleep.
