Hi ladies,
I just wanted to ask your opinion on something. Today, I was buckling my son into his car seat at the post office when a woman walked by, handed me a board book and said "for your baby," and kept going. The whole thing was just weird to me, like she didn't even give me a chance to say thank you or give me an explanation of why she was giving him a book. Does that make sense? I don't want to be so suspicious or anything, but it seems so weird to me.
Re: WWYD? Or think? Gifts from strangers
Weird. Maybe she had it in her car from a family member and was facing throwing it out and figured she'd give it to the next age appropriate kid she saw. I say cool, keep it as long as it looks in good shape.
At least she handed it to you instead of your son.
Cool that she gave it, but odd that there was no explanation.
DS received a little handmade car from an older gentleman who makes them as a hobby. We were just hanging out in the dr's waiting room and he came over and asked if the baby would like a toy.
It's one of J's favorite "diaper bag" toys and every time I look at it I'm reminded of the kindness of strangers.
That is cool and weird too, I agree.
When I was 9 months pregnant this woman in Target walked up to me and handed me a $10 gift card and said, "Use it for the baby." and walked away.
I think that was very cool. Random acts of kindness restore my faith in humanity.
I will say I think its also very sad when it's questioned...don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming you or anyone else, because I would think twice two! I just think it's sad that we do...or we feel we have to.
I agree that it was very cool, it's a nice little Curious George book and my DS loves books too. And I did call after her and say "thank you" twice, she looked back at me once, but didn't smile or anything. I also love random acts of kindness, especially given that I mostly receive random acts of rudeness (lol). And I do feel bad to question it too, but it was so odd that there was no "I had this in my car" or even "asking if the baby would like a book, you know? Oh well.
)
Thanks
