Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Hey Preemie Moms .. come in PLEASE?! :)

I'm not getting much of a response over on 12-24 so I figured I'd ask you ladies!

One of my girlfriend's on FB is confused about what to do with her twins '6 month' checkup.

Her status update:

i wonder if they go off adjusted age for flu shots? technically for the twins 6 month shots/well check this month .. they will be 3 1/2 months .. so i wonder if they will be able to get a flu shot since you can get them at 6 months and up?

I want to help her and I figured you guys would know!

  • For all of our shots, our Pedi goes by actual age - not adjusted. We did not get the flu shot, so I can't answer for that one though.

  • I am almost certain my friends 27 weeker got his flu shot at 6 months and has been getting his vaccines based on his actual age.

  •  I would tell her to check with her pedi. We do DS's shot schedule based on his actual age (9 months) and not his adjusted age (8 months)

  • I don't understand why she wouldn't ask her pedi this question, rather than Facebook...

We got all of Molly's shots on schedule, based on her actual age, but she was 7 weeks early, not 2.5 months.  I don't know if it changes based on HOW preemie they are.

  • My son was born @32 weeks so he was 4 mos at his 6 mos check up.  I always got his shots according to his adjusted age.  I figure the vaccines were designed for the weight of an average 6 month old and also for the immune system of an average 6 month old.   His weight was no where near where it should have been for his age so I didn't feel OK with it.

My pedi agreed to go w/ the adjusted age.
