January 2011 Moms

gggrrrr

So I just saw a woman who was VERY much pregnant smoking a cigarette and chugging an extra large iced coffee!!!  I wanted to beat her up.  Then, I took a deep breath, and figured I'd give her the benefit of the doubt.  Maybe it's decaf.  And maybe she has been trying to quit smoking and has like one a month...    either way it made me cringe to see her!!

Re: gggrrrr

  • I don't care about the coffee but she's gotta lose the cig

  • Maybe it was decaf or half and half, so I'd give her the benefit of the doubt on that one, but not on the smoking.  If you can tell she's pregnant then she's not newly pregnant and has had plently of time to quit.  The excuse "that it's just to hard to quit" is BS and selfish to your unborn child.  DH and I quit smoking the day we found out we were pregnant back in January and never even thought once to start up again when we miscarried in February.  We knew we needed to quit and we knew it was a disgusting habit but we had no motivation to quit at the time so I felt like the worst person in the world to have been a smoker when I found out I was pregnant (we weren't trying at the time).  Sure its hard but knowing that I was responsible for the well being of another life inside of me was motivation enough.  We're shocked we didn't start up again after our loss due to depression but are so happy that we didn't.

Same for me (dh never smoked) I quit july 2009, bust started up again casually, when drinking. Not a cig since April, and I quit cold turkey so I don't buy the BS either.

  • I've been having my 2-3 cups a day, but it's usually a small, and usually 1/2 decaf. The smoking thing just kills me!  Even my parents have now quit, after smoking since they were 16 years old, because there's a grandchild on the way.  If they can do it, anyone can!
