what was your kid's first "real" word?

besides "mama" or "dada"?

Cooper is now saying "bubble" (only it sounds like "bub oh", but it actually SOUNDS like bubble and IS a complete word) and it is killing me with how awesomely cute it is.  He's said "words" before, but usually just the first two letters of words (do = dog, du = duck, etc), this is a whole big word.  I am so excited, I could plotz!

Now to get the other kid to say something besides "DA!"  :)

Re: what was your kid's first "real" word?

  • "lights"  He said it very loudly every time he saw Christmas lights.

(X-mas lights too, heh heh heh.)

xoxo, Wallace!  Lights is a hard one to say too, wowza!

  • Uhoh was her first word at all.  Mama was a distant 4th (after dog and dada.)  She now says thank you which I think is adorable.  :)

  • "Avery" (our dog's name) and "bye" were both around the same time. He tends to say people's names over other words. "Bubble" is super cute, I'm jealous. Yay Coop!
  • glad that we're not the only ones with "uh oh" as our first word. her vocabulary has exploded recently and she's always surprising us with new words now. it's so much fun!

  • Layna's first word was a phrase.  "Here you go" and it came out, Ear go.  It was the only thing she said for months.  She would say it when she gave you something.  She would ask it if she wanted something.  And she would scream it if you wouldn't give something to her.

It was a very functional phrase.

  • Daniel's first word was "diaper."  William's seems to be "that," which he pronounces "dat" and uses when he points at something.

  • My oldest child's first word was pickle, pronounced ickle.
I am a shitty mother and don't remember what the two girls first words were.  I have it written down somewhere, but am also too lazy to look it up.
  • It was dog for Luke too, but it sounded more like doe-g with lots of emphasis on the DOE lol
  • "bye-bye" -- he loves saying words that start with B for some reason.  ball, book, bird, balloon... they all kind of sound like a variation of "buuh" haha.

  • Tommy's first word was "light" and Jack's was "car."

  • "NeNe" - that's what we call my mom. I don't know if you can call that a real word or not, but he was very clear about saying it. Alex said it and reached for her. It was the first thing he said after Dada and Mama. He also says "Na Na" which means nurse, and after he fell and bumped his head recently, he said, "Mama, ah ohn na na" which sounded a lot like "Mama, I want na na". Last week he picked up a bead Meredith had dropped on the floor, pointed to it with his other hand and said, "Dis?" as in "What's this?"

With Meredith, um, I honestly don't remember. Embarrassed

  • Kitty. But now she only says cat. I miss hearing "ki-TEEEEEE". Sad
  • Steven's first word was "bye bye" long before he started calling us mama and dada.  He could babble them, but he didn't start calling us that until a few months after "bye bye" came out.
  • Camy's was "thisss" about everything. She points and says "thisss" all. the. time.
And she's been saying "dada" in context for a while now, but still has yet to say "mama". :(
  • I'm a bad mom too and I don't remember dd's first word. DS's was bob-bob for spongebob. Nice huh? Big sister was going through a bob-bob phase so he picked up on it.
  • M's was Coal, the dog's name, only he says "ooal" and then whistles, because dh whistles to call the dog.  Now every dog he sees he says "ooal" and whistles.

  • I keep joking that my kid's first words are going to be "Chicken Walnut Sandwich" because of how many I've eaten during this pregnancy.  Wink
