Does anyone know if it's possible to get an infection of a Montgomery gland?
I breastfeed and pump. I noticed the other day that one of the bumps on my areola is red and larger. When touched, it is a little painful. I also noticed that after pumping it appeared to expel a little bit of pus (kind of like a pimple). These are the only symptoms. The rest of the breast appears to be fine.
Has anyone experienced something like this before? If so, what was it? What was the course of treatment?
Normally I would just go to the doctor, but, as all of you know, being a working mom doesn't afford me much time. I really don't have the time to take off of work and go to the doctor and then find out it's nothing serious. I'd prefer to save my sick time, since I'm sure I may need them in the future with a new baby.
I greatly appreciate it.
Re: Swollen Montgomery's Gland
I had a plugged duct in a montgomery gland when I was in High School... freaked me the heck out because I wasn't pregnant or lactating- I thought I had breast cancer when I felt the lump. I did go to a Dr. but within two days- it drained on it's own while I was taking a hot shower messing with it the color of the drainage (tmi) was semi opaque tea color.
Now- as a lactating adult- I know that at least one of those bumps is connected to a milk duct because a teeny drop of milk will form when I have a let-down.
I'd guess that you have a plugged duct- and I'd treat it with hot compresses and try massage too.
I greatly appreciate the input. I will give it a try and hope for the best. If it doesn't clear in a few days, I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and call the doctor.
I'm glad to hear that someone had something similar because the online searches were coming back sparse.
