my pee rant - normal or time to call the doc?

Peeing and everything about it sucks when you're pregnant, I know.

In the past week, I've really noticed an increase in how often I have to pee.  Totally normal, since Hatchy is getting bigger and dancing around on my bladder, I know.

In the past few days though, I literally CANNOT pee enough.  I do everything I can to empty my bladder (tilt forward, then tilt back, then stand up and lean way forward to get those last few droplets out) and by the time I have my pants back on and my hands washed, I have the OVERWHELMING urge to pee more.  And then it's just a few more drops.  Rinse and repeat.

What gives?  Should I be concerned that this is some sort of UTI?  Or chalk it up to Aidan making my life extra fun, and just mention it at my doc visit a week from tomorrow?

  • Frequent urge to urinate, with very little actually coming out can be a sign of a uti.  It could also be that your bladder is having a hard time getting empty because there is a uterus in the way.  I would probably call and go in for a quick urine check just to be safe.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

    This!  GL

  • I'm experiencing the EXACT same thing. All the time. It doesn't feel like I have a UTI. Those have always been pretty painful for me. But I am going to the doc tomorrow, so I will discuss it then.

    This!!! Call your doctor, woman!!

Is it bad to say I hope that's what it is so you can take some antibiotics and feel better?? Seems strange to hope someone has a UTI doesn't it???

haha, it DOES sound strange, but I'm hoping the same thing.  I just want some relief.

  • I have been experiencing this for a couple of weeks.  I called the doctor and she had me come in for a urine test just to sure it wasn't a UTI.  She said UTIs can feel different during pregnancy.  I didn't have one.  But I would get it checked just to be sure.
  • I have the same issue with it dribbling out and I don't have a UTI, I take a test every Dr.'s appt which have been quite a few this month. I am also taking liquid cranberry to really lessen the chance that I get one. In the past my UIT's have been excruciating so I think I will know when I have one.

  • It does sound like the beginnings of a UTI.  I had this in my first Tri and I told the doctor about it, but they said there was nothing in my urine to indicate it.  It's probably a good idea to get it checked out, though.

Usually if it happens to me, I drink a LOT of water all at once.  Then I'm uncomfortable for about an hour until I have to pee again.  That second time (with a lot of urine) usually does the trick and the bad feeling goes away.  You could try that in the meantime.

  • Also, if you can stand it, don't force those last few drops.  It just irritates your urinary tract even more.

  • I had this for a couple weeks and didn't have a uti.  Doc said that it is normal 2nd tri hormones and should let up soon!  Mine did, so I hope yours does too!
  • I asked at my lat appointment too cause I always felt pressure or a heaviness like I still had to go and was told that it was just the baby sitting on the bladder. Couldn't hurt to ask though cause you never know. It is VERY annoying. I agree. :( Feel better.
  • Sounds like it could be a UTI. When I had one in first tri, it didn't hurt. Only reason I found out was through the monthly urine tests. Like a pp said, I hope that's what it is so you have an answer and a solution :-D
  • Frequent need to urinate can also be a sign of gestational diabetes. I would ask your doctor to have you tested early for it.

  • i had this very thing last week, so i suspected it was a uti and drank tons of water and cranberry juice, and then it went away.  however, a few days later my pain down there increased - i chalked it up to normal aches and pains of pregnancy, rlp or just joint pain, and was going to ask my dr about it next week at my scheduled appt.  yesterday though, we thought maybe we should call the doc - i had no relief either sitting or laying down - and they squeezed me in.  turned out i had a "raging yeast infection", according to my doc.  SO glad i went in and didn't just write it off!  i feel much better today, and i'm happy to know it's not something i just have to deal with for 19 more weeks. :)

i highly suggest at least calling your doc.  if a uti gets too bad, it can spread to your kidneys, and that's not good for you or your kiddo.  gl!!
