Babies: 3 - 6 Months

daycare saying my LO is behind...

I was kinda sad leaving daycare yesterday.  My DD#1 was late on rolling over (7 months) sitting on own (6 months) crawling (9 months) walking (15 months)

However at daycare my new LO that is 5 months old is still not rolling over.  She will get all the way up on her side, she just does not go over...

I was wondering when your LO first started rolling from back to belly and when they first started sitting up?  Does anyone have a late bloomer like my DD's?

 TIA

Re: daycare saying my LO is behind...

  • My LO is rolling from back to belly but just started about a week ago.  She does not roll back from belly to back.  She's also not sitting on her own yet either.  I have tried putting the bobby behind her to help and she'll still tip over.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.

  • So daycare told you she was behind?? That's a load of bullsh*t, and a really good way to make a mom worried over nothing. My LO is rolling both ways, but only just started doing it consistently a couple weeks ago, and I have plenty of friends who's LOs started later. You have nothing to worry about -  these developmental timetables are estimates - and shame on your daycare for not knowing better.
  • That seriously pisses me off for you.  Babies learn and develop at their own rate.  There's nothing wrong with your DD not rolling all the way yet.  Your DCP is not a doctor.

    ARGH.

  • Um, yeah, why on earth would your daycare say that!!  Is she on top of the curve?  NO!  But there's nothing wrong with her at all.  This makes me mad for you.

My LO is 5 months and still doesn't roll belly to back.  She goes back to belly all the time, but still cna't complete the full roll...she will when she's ready!

  • Every child is different. I wouldn't worry about what your daycare says. Your LO will be doing these things before you know it!

    DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.

  • I agree w/pp's, I can't believe they said that to you.

Although we have a week and change until DS is 5 mos, DS knows how to roll all ways but he doesn't.  He has zero interest in moving anywhere on his own at this point and he still hates being on his tummy.  He's also not even close to sitting up on his own, still super wobbly:)

  • Liam still doesn't roll belly to back... I suspect it's partially because he hates being on his back.  He gets halfway there.  He also only mostly sits on his own... he still tips back and forth, and 50% of the time, he will topple.

My DC has said not a word about this, and are just continuing to encourage him to build his muscles.  I'm not worried in the slightest.

  • Both my boys started rolling over right around 5 months.  DS #1 started sitting unassisted at 7 months.  #2 is not doing it yet, but getting close.  I think he's still a few weeks away.  DS #1 also crawled late (10-ish months) but walked early (11 months) - so we had a VERY short crawling stage.  Now he is ahead of most kids with gross motor skills.

  • My Dr. told me at our last appt that as long as LO rolls up on her side she is good.

Not all babies enjoy rolling around and mine is one of them. Your DD is perfect and your daycare should have never said otherwise.

That is ridiculous that they made you feel bad.

My LO started rolling from her belly at 3 months and from her back at 5 months. She is NOWHERE near sitting up on her own, and from what I know, 7 months is the average on that. Sounds like your DD is not behind on that.

My first LO sat up at 6 months but did everything else slowly - 7 months to roll from her back, 9 months to crawl, 13 months to walk. But all of that was within the norm, as is your baby. Stupid daycare.

  • My DD is almost 5 months (Sept 7) and she hasn't rolled from back to belly.  She gets over half way and that's the end of it.  She hasn't rolled from belly to back for over a month.  And when she did, I think it was accidental.  Every baby develops differently and they really shouldn't be making comments like that!  I'm sure ?t'll just happen one day when you least expect it!

  • Eh, they're fools.  DS #1 didn't roll until late into his 5th month, sat up around 7 months, crawled around 10 months and walked around 15 months.  And is totally fine.  I honestly wouldn't give her not rolling yet a second thought.
