baby kicking? first timer confusion!

When am I supposed to start feel the baby kicking? I just can't tell what could be a "flutter" or a kick versus all the other weird and unfamiliar feelings in my abdomen! Maybe I just won't be sure until I see a foot print on my stomach!! I wonder about it everyday and just aren't sure if it is something you just know or not... Stick out tongue Thoughts?

Re: baby kicking? first timer confusion!

  • I have never felt a "flutter" feeling or anything like butterflies like some people have said.  To me, initially it felt like tiny little pops way deep inside of me.  I've been feeling bigger kicks for a little over a week now though, and those feel sort of like muscle twitches from the inside of my stomach.  DH can feel most of them too. • Honestly, I must just be totally unobservant.  I never felt a "flutter" or the little "pops" or anything.  I didn't feel ANYTHING until the day I felt full-on kicking.  And it literally just feels like something is in there kicking outward.

Sometimes I can tell that he's just kind of "moving around" - I call that "poking."  Other times he gets startled (at the opening of an EXTREMELY loud movie last week, I got the two hardest kicks a 20 week old inside baby can possibly be capable of).  And then other times he's clearly complaining about things that I'm doing (normally I feel fine lying on my stomach.  Other times, he gets kicky and doesn't stop until I get up.)

  • At first for me they felt like pops or bubbles now he plays a game of foot ball from 10:30- 11 at night and wakes me up if im asleep.
  • I think I assumed any "fluttering" was gas.  I started to feel little pops about 17/18 weeks.  Now its obvious when she is moving around.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • with my first son, I saw my stomach move and didn't even feel that.  I didn't feel a thing until I started watching my whole belly move and shift.

  • ok, I'm not alone. I keep hearing that I'm supposed to be able to feel things soon, but mostly I just feel my uterus tighten or my gas-filled intestines complaining. I feel lots of little random things, but nothing I can identify as a little person... and I'm wondering if I'm just missing it. So you're not alone!
  • I could feel mine pretty early but I only knew it was them bc I saw it on an ultrasound as I felt it! I don't know what one feels like but when they were a little smaller the twins felt like something was rolling back and forth in my stomach. My doctor basically said if it feels like gas but you aren't gasy its the babies.. now it feels like something is trying to get out! lol
