? about infant front carrier

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone purchased an infant front carrier? Which one did you chose? My husband and I are leaning towards the babybjorn but we aren't sure which one. If you have already registered, which one did you chose and why? Or if you are a second time mom, which one did you use? Thanks so much! :)

Re: ? about infant front carrier

  • Our friends swear by the BabyBjorn, but I think their son doesn't have good head support and it comes up too far on his face when he is front facing (it's like mouth level - maybe he's too small for front facing?). We registered for an Ergo Baby. The reviews are excellent and I hear you can carry the baby at much larger weights more comfortably. We will need an infant insert, but I haven't investigated that too much. I might just use a Moby wrap or sling until the baby is large enough to fit in the Ergo. The only complaint I hear is that there is less air circulation with the Ergo opposed to the Bjorn.

  • We have a Beco which is similar to the Ergo.  I love it.  We tried several other carriers first and this is, by far, the most comfortable carrier we have owned.  You can't forward face in it, but that's supposed to be bad for baby's back anyway.  DS doesn't seem to mind at all.
  • I hated the baby bjorn. It was really hot to wearing it and once ds hit 10 lbs it hurt my back. I have a moby wrap and love it and plan to use that while dd is little then I am going to get an ergo when dd is a little bigger if we are still doing a lot of baby wearing.
  • I've tried those traditional carriers and after the baby gets to be about 15lbs, it hurts your back so bad. This time I'm saving up for an Ergo, I have quite a few friends who say they are wonderful for both baby and mummy. They're pricey, but worth it from what I hear.

  • We were given an Infantino by a friend, and we got a BabyBjorn from the Just Between Friends sale (it was only $15 so it was a great deal). We hadn't really researched too much and since we got a great deal on those if we want to change, we won't be out too much money.

  • My brother and SIL gave me an Infantino Go-Go Rider. I don't know anyone else who's had an infant front carrier, so I can't really judge it on anything else. I'll see when I can actually use it! :)

  • I have a Bjorn, an Ergo and a Moby left over from Kate. She loved the Bjorn until she was too big for it (around 9 months)...it's one of the only carriers that can face out and she loved that). I love the Ergo now (we use the hip and back carry), but we couldn't use it until she was about 3-4 months old. We both hated the Moby.

I'm thinking about getting a ring sling for this one.

  • I liked the Moby until I felt DD was too big for it, probably around 15 pounds. DH used the Bjorn with DD, but I've read that they aren't good for the baby in the front facing position.  We got an Ergo when DD was older and it was great for the hip position, and I'm looking forward to using it alot with this baby.  I tried a few slings, but never found one that was comfortable for me to use.

  • My girlfriend carries her second child in their carrier everywhere and she went through a few before finding one that was really comfortable and safe.  She told me to get the Ergo Carrier.  Hope this helps.
  • I've heard good things about the ergo. They also have an infant insert.
  • i used the moby with DD and we both liked it.  my DH was upset that i bought a pink one and won't wear it in public, but i don't care i went pink crazy Smile  my SILs use the moby as well and one of them used it to the max weight with her son.  plus with the moby you can wear the baby on your back when they are older.

  • We used the Moby wrap with DS, and we loved it.  We used it until he was about 20 lbs.  At that point, he didn't really want to be in it, he wanted to be off exploring on his own.
  • Ergo and a sling for us
  • I still use my Moby for DD#2 and she is 15 months and just over 20 lbs. I have used it since she was about 6 weeks old and even comfortably walked around St. Louis and even went up in the Arch with her in it.

  • The Baby Bjorn sucks.  It killed my back, shoulders and collar bone and DD was a tiny peanut!  I have the Ergo now and it is awesome.  It puts pressure on your hips instead of your back.  You can also wear your LO on your back or the side.

For $20 more than the Bjorn it is well worth the investment.

  • I have an ergo and used it for just about everything, it's so comfy not only for me but for my son too. He is calm and slept well in it when he was little. It's still a staple in my car, I always take it with me.
