Thoughts on registering for...

...items like books, DVDs, CDs?  I've seen quite a few on registries and I'm wondering what everyone thinks.

Is it okay?  Is it too much?

Re: Thoughts on registering for...

  • I think it's okay. I just have a problem with people registering for things like video cameras and tech stuff that the baby doesn't use.

  • I did it initially and then took a lot of it off. I left a few on there for lower-priced items in case people needed that. Plus, (pleasegodincludeagiftreceipt) you can always exchange for something you needed but didn't get.
  • i would because even if you don't get any of them you can generally receive discounts after your LO arrives.

  • I registered for a few books. I'm a teacher and I have my Master's degree in Literacy, so reading is a pretty big part of my life, and I hope to pass that on to LO.

I also thought the books would offer some nice options at a lower price point to provide a wide variety of price ranges. Anyone who knows me and is looking to spend a smaller amount of money will know they can't go wrong with a book for baby.

  • Sure it's stuff that the baby will use.  I registered for a Baby Einstein lullabye cd..I don't see why not?  I think books are great too.  As a gift giver I enjoy getting things other than diapers or pacifiers sometimes :)
  • I think it's a good idea but I won't personally do it because I am asking guests to bring them in lieu of cards.
  • I'm not but I dont think it is a bad idea.

  • I plan on reading to my munchkin every night, so I registered for a bunch of books-they add some really inexpensive items to the registry to round it out =)
  • I think CD's and little car seat toys are great for low priced items. Sometimes if I want to spend $50 on a gift and find something for $40, I'll pick one of those up to include.

I also had a girlfriend who had  "Bring your favorite childhood book" on her baby shower invite. I think that's a great way to start your child's library.

  • Personally, I love giving things like that as gifts anyway, so it makes me happy when people register for those things. We put some CDs and books on an Amazon registry when pregnant with Lyla, and I noticed that a lot of my friends without kids got stuff off of there. I think it was more fun for them to buy those things than a baby bathtub or monitor, ya know?
  • I am definitely doing a "bring your favorite childhood book for baby's library" baby shower. So no, I definitely don't think registering for little things like this is inappropriate.

I am getting so many hand me downs that I actually need to be a little creative on the registry (for those people who want to buy me things...) so things like dvds or books are perfect. My theory is, you can never have too many books!
