  • I love those names and I find that it helps to go through my grandmother's yearbook.  These names were popular in the 20s

You have some great names here!

Unfortunately Lillian and Ellie are part of two of the most popular names around right now. It may not look that way if you look at them on the SSA list, but when you combine Lillian, Lilian, Liliana, Lily, and all of the other names that could be nn'd Lily, and Eleanor, Elizabeth, Ella, Elle, Ellie, and all of the other names that could be nn'd Ellie, you will see that they are probably way too popular for your taste.

I know you didn't ask for opinions on the names, but I wanted to say that I just added Lena to my long list last night, and I'm really excited about that name!

As for what you did ask, based on your criteria of "classic" and "feminine", I recommend checking out the following Nameberry articles:

"Vintage Names: 100-Year-Old Names That Sound New Again"

"Vintage Baby Names: Testing the 100 Year Rule"

"Old Lady Names: Ready for the Next Wave"

    "The Lost Names of 1880"

"Vintage Girls' Names: The Lost Names of 1910"

Also, since you said you are just starting out, I recommend reading the "9 Timeless Rules for Naming Your Baby". But most of us recommend changing Rule #3 to "Try Out Names On Your Internet Friends"- That means us! We don't recommend telling your family or friends in real life because:

~Your creepy father-in-law could tell you that the name is sexy and ruin the name for you (this actually happened to a Bumpie a couple of months ago)

~Your friend could use the name before you have your baby, leaving you to decide whether to still use the name or not.

~Your sister could tell you that the name is off limits b/c that's the name she's wanted to use for her future daughter since middle school.

~Your mom could say "That's an old lady name!! I hate it!" NOTE: This happens a LOT, since our mothers are in a different generation than us. (Please see this article for more info on why)

I hope this helps. Good luck on your naming journey, and please keep us updated when you add/delete names. I'd like to hear the other names on your list, if you don't mind sharing!
