Re: WDYT?

  • How is that pronounced? Like "my-rin?" Long i followed by short i?

My only concern is that you'll spend your life explaining that to people.

  • Loading the player...
  • We acutally have a "friend of a friend" who is named mairin and it is pronounced

Mare (as in the beginning of Mary)- IN

  • I think it is a pretty name.

FWIW, I would pronounce it Mare-in.

  • I think it's beautiful, and I got the pronunciation right the first time!

I've spent my whole life telling people how to pronounce my name... it gets old, but I'm used to it. My first name is Laura, so you'd think people would know how to say it. But no. I get called "Lora" ALL the time even by people who have known me for years. There's no "o" in Laura, people. It's Lar-uh. Not Lor-uh. Grr.

My roundabout point is that even if you pick a completely common name, people still might mispronounce it, so don't worry about people not getting Mairin right away.
