Doppler Advice Needed ASAP!!!

Or talk me down!! :P

I have been able to hear the heartbeat every night since I have gotten my doppler.  The last couple of times, I can find it in less than a minute...

Tonight after 30-45 mins, I still can't find it!!  Heeelllppp...freaking out a little :P

Re: Doppler Advice Needed ASAP!!!

  • Don't worry!  The same thing happened to me the other night.  I've been able to hear the heart beat easily and for some reason couldn't.  If the baby moves, it is hard to find, especially if the baby was towards the front of your stomach and now moved towards your back.  It's ok!  I know how you feel but the baby is surely fine

  • Don't freak out! (although I have been there and know how easy it is to).

Drink an ice cold water, go to the bathroom, give it an hour, and try again.  The baby is still so small and can move and burrow around in there.

    ((( hugs )))

  • this is the reason why the NP I work with does not like the average person getting home dopplers.  She feels it can cause freak outs.  When I bought mine I agreed I would not freak because I am not medically trained, it's my first baby, and I'm over weight.

    now for your freak out:

1- expect that unless you are a nurse and use to doig this all day it can take time to find it.

2- the little one can be moving around so it can be hard to find or turned in a way to make it harder

3- did you check the batteries? is the volume up? (i know stupid questions but I've worked with people who freaked out about the phone not working only for me to figure out that it was not plugged in.or a broken printer that turned out to be out of paper..)

Thanks for the comments...I have walked away from the doppler and decided to make dinner and relax for awhile.  Wasn't quite at the freak out point, but was getting there.  (My freak outs aren't massive :)

I could hear my own heartbeat just fine... so I know it was working.  Now, there was a lot of wooshing and "extra?" sounds tonight and thought maybe the LO was moving a lot...and hence, the break and deep breaths.  I will try again later...ugh...

You know what baby??  You are grounded!! lol

  • Baby was probably moving all around and scooting away from the probe, lol. This happened to me around 13/14 weeks several times. I bet you'll be able to pick it up again later:)

  • #1 reason why I won't buy a doppler. Too much anxiety if you can't find the hb.

  • The doc couldn't even find a hb at my 12.5 week appt.  But I had an u/s that morning, so I knew it was there.

My experience has been that at night the baby is moving around like crazy so I have no chance of finding a hb.  I just entertain myself with the sounds of that and I'm sure some of it is digestion or something.

In the mornings before I get out of bed, I find the hb in 2 minutes or less.

AS OCD as I am, before purchasing the doppler I had to promise myself I would never freakout about not finding the hb and so far I've been sucessful.  The baby moving theory has always gotten me through.  And since I can tell there's a lot of extra noise when I can't find the hb, it plays right into my happy thoughts.

  • So no worries :)  Found the heartbeat right before I went to bed.  I really appreciate all the reassuring comments.  And yes! there was so much extra noise that I was just telling myself that the baby was moving around a lot.  My DH and I joke that it is doing Zumba in there because I still go to the classes.  On our first U/S, the baby was going crazy and dancing and so whenever I picture it moving around, I laugh.

  • Same issue...I have slightly tilted uterus though so i am sure that is why.  I could hear LO moving around though.  They couldn't find it the following day at the doc (granted the fool only tried for about 10 seconds) but we saw it beating away on the u/s.  The next day I found it right away, Just depends on the position.
