We'd like to use it for a boy, but when I mention it to people, I have gotten the reaction "oh I know the cutest little girl with that name! I love it for a little girl" I am worried that our "boy" name is super trendy for a girl right now, and people will assume he's a girl because of that upswing.

Boy. I immediately think of Ralph Waldo Emerson. I don't think there's anything appealing/feminine about this name. I don't get the love for it as a girl's name.

I'm a huge Emerson fan, I even have "Scatter Joy" tattooed my arm. Why yes, I am a lit nerd!
That being said, I can see it as a girl's name as long as you call her Emmie.

I would've probably thought boy initially but someone I know just named her daughter Emerson.
Honestly though, I personally couldn't use that name because it would seem like we're trying to kiss a** to MH's company.

There's just no telling.
It is definitely a boy name.
That being said, it is one of the few boy names that I like for a girl. I would never use it - but I secretly like it from afar
