Had anyone heard anything about aspartame and pregnancy? I just realized I have been drinking juice mixes that has aspartame in it and I am wondering if I should stop drinking them? Any thoughts? TIA!
yeah unfortunately DH was buying these and I didnt realize that they had it...I didnt really take the time to look either. I hope I will be okay. I have an appointment tomorrow so I will ask about it then. What does anyone drink that DOES NOT have aspartame in it?

Yeah, I hate that it seems to sneak it to so much these days.
Agreed with pp, I stick with regular stuff, not diet (though understood, some "not diet" things may still have it). I'll drink gatorade, water, regular coke as well (one every few days), root beer (no caffeine!), and tomato/vegetable juice. I've never been a fruit juice fan. But I'm sure you can find fruit juices minus the aspartame. Just have to watch those sneaky labels
I have been drinking water, ginger ale, milk, fruit juices and lemondade. I am trying to steer clear of anything with aspartme or artificial sweeteners. Also been drinking gatorade.
Yes, I definitely stay away from artificial sweeteners, especially during pregnancy. I've mostly been drinking water, ginger ale, or carbonated water (unsweetened)... if I need caffeine because I have a headache, I have iced tea or regular coke.

I stopped consuming aspartame years ago because of the overall negative effects it could have. I don't consume any artificial sweetners at all. I would definitely try and avoid them during pregnancy.

Ditto what everyone else has been saying. I avoid all artificiality sweetners. They're not good for you in general, just like high fructose corn syrup. They are not digested the same way and actually block the good nutrients from being absorbed by your body because the nutrients have nothing to grasp onto. Real sugar is the best, in moderation of course as with anything else.

I also avoid all artificial sweetners, including HFCS. In fact, I generally avoid all chemical and processed foods period. Unfortunately with my current lack of things I can drink without getting pukey sick, I'm stuck drinking things I would normally not, like tons of apple juice.
My dr said its okay in moderation... like maybe once or twice a day. I drink mostly juice, water, and tea.
Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
I just realized that I was still drinking diet soda last week (what a moron I am LOL)...I did some research and the aspartame, from what I found isn't as bad as saccharin and the American Pregnancy Association has an article about sweeteners and pregnancy (https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/artificialsweetner.htm) that states that the FDA says that aspartame is okay during pregnancy as long as it's used in moderation. That said, I agree with the other ladies, and I stopped as soon as I realized what I was still doing...now I'm water, juice, and milk only.

My doctor didn't seem to care. He told me he let his wife drink caffiene free diet coke to get her soda fix. So, I would say it isn't that big of a deal. The key to all of these rules is moderation.

My doc told me to avoid it & also warned me to check foods such as low-cal yogurts, sugar-free ice cream bars, etc. which you may not realize have aspertame in them. She did say splenda was approved though.
My doctor didn't say anything about it, but as a general rule we avoid it in our house. I drink tons of milk and water, and we always keep 100% fruit juices around (we check the labels because SS gets wired with anything but natural sugars). If I need caffeine for a headache I tend to reach for a half cup of black coffee.
I have always avoided all artificial sweeteners and most of them that claim to be sugar derivatives. Especially since they give me headaches and I believe deep down they cause cancer. No rock hard proof that they do but some studies are enough for me to avoid them. I don't have a problem with Stevia (it's been used with no affects in South America for over 300 years) but it's barely in anything.
Avoid acesulfame potassium like the plague - it's even worse for you than aspartame. You can wikipedia both for info.

I've given up all artificial sweeteners. I was hoping to continue to drink Vitamin Water Zero, which is made with Truvia (Stevia), but my doctor said no because it is actually an herb that is commonly used in South America to prevent pregnancy. There is also a lot of controversy regarding it's FDA approval, so I gave it up as well.
I may sneak a small amount of Diet Coke once a week once I'm further along. I miss it so much. During my first pregnancy, I couldn't get water down and I drank a lot of Izze, ginger ale, juice......and I gained a ton of weight. I'm sticking to water (sometimes with a lemon) and decaf unsweet tea this time. The hundreds of extra calories a day aren't worth it.
I'm a big splenda user- I can't have sugar because i've had gastric bypass, so when it comes to having drinks or whatever, I have to have juice made with splenda, not sugar. I don't drink any pop or coffee, but I do drink crystal lite type drinks, because I can only stomach so much plain water a day... I haven't asked my dr about what his opinion on it is, but I have about 1 packet a day. I see him in another 2 weeks, and will add it to the list of questions, but I don't know what I'm gonna do if I can't have any- because I won't get in enough water a day, without it.
Re: aspartame...
This exactly!
Water, regular coke or pepsi, unsweet tea. Real sugar is fine in moderation as is caffeine.

I am staying away from it for now and hope to continue when not pregnant.
FYI Crystal light pure does not have aspartame, but it does have Rebiana which is supposed to be related to Truvia
