FB friend thinks her 4 month old son is autistic

and thinks that his 2 month shots caused it Surprise

She has written many posts about how her son has stopped cooing and talking and how worried she is that he is now autistic.  She said he is still making eye contact and smiling but he is showing many early signs of autism. Her latest post is that his 4 month appointment was rescheduled and that was a sign from God that he shouldn't be getting his shots, and now he has started talking again and he is "cured of his autism" thanks to everyones prayers. It is taking every ounce of strength for me to not send her a message and tell her to chill and enjoy her son and stop worrying about him being autistic. HE IS 4 MONTHS OLD! my goodness! I understand having concerns, especially with boys but seriously, posting that all over facebook??? That's shocking to me....

and she is also a teacher. She works with autistic kids!!  You would think she would be more educated on this stuff! It blows my mind

Not to defend her, but as a teacher, I tend to overreact when I see signs that could possibly be a delay.  I"ve work with a lot of kids who have special needs, and I really worry if my son will have any of those problems.

However, to post it on FB and then claim that he has been cured is ridiculous.

Right, I am also a teacher. I also worry a ton, especially since I have a boy but to post that all over fb and to say he is now cured is a little crazy to me!

  • And she's an autism teacher?  And she's that misinformed?  That's shameful.

  • Did anybody think she might have PPD/PPA ? It sounds like unrealistic fear/ paranoia - you know? Maybe she just needs some support and for someone to inform her more. Even tho she works with children with Autism, when it comes to your own child it can be a different story. She doesnt seem to be realizing the facts and it just sounds like fear to me.

  • the bigger problem, IMO, is that she is posting her wishy washy back & forth autism thoughts on FB.
  • She's definitely entitled to be concerned for her son, if she feel as though something has changed (regardless of what we all believe or know about autism). I'm sure we've all over-reacted to something as it relates to our kiddos.

    However.

Posting it all over FB before getting an actual diagnosis is just BSC. And yeah, doesn't sound like autism to me. But what do I know?

  • I agree that as a teacher you tend to worry more about your LO's, but like PP said, it's her posting on FB about him being cured. Confused

  • Her kid is "doomed" whether he has autism or not with a mother like that.
  • That is ridiculous! You can't even diagnose autism at that age anyways. Wow. And she works with autistic kids?? Scary.

And now he's cured?? In 2 months?? By prayer?? Lord help that child. Hope he walks & talks before his 1st b-day or he'll probably be autistic again. LOL!
