Ok- I'm starting to get worried that we'll never come up with a girl middle name option. Pretty set that the first name (if baby is a girl) will be June. DH and I both like it, plus it reminds me of my grandma (Jean) and my favorite aunt (Jane). The middle name I'm pushing is "Lynnea" which is a Scandinavian name (both of our heritages), BUT it is traditionally spelled "Linnea." I'd like to spell it with a "y" to honor both of our mothers whose middle name is "Lynn.". DH is against creative spellings, but really how unique and creative is changing the "I" to a "Y?" What do you think? My argument is that no one really even knows the name "Linnea" anyways, so no one will be too offended if we tweak it. Plus, I don't want to leave it "Linnea" because DH had a Great Aunt Linnea and I'd really like to work sone more of my family's history into this little one's name. DS #1 shares a MN with DH, DH's father and DH's grandmother. (Sorry for the bad formatting... I'm on my phone)

Re: Too you-neak?
I'm not a fan of creative spellings, but I would probably let that one slide in the MN slot for family members. I have a feeling most people around here wouldn't know how to spell Linnea anyway, plus you will rarely use it.
I like the name June a lot.
WEll, as June is kind of Jean and Jane, I don't see why Linnea still can't be for Lynn.
In the end, it's a middle name and not a common name in the US. So it won't really be that noticable. Regardless- I still really despise the "lets replace an I w/ a Y" trend. Despise it.

I think I'm going with "the exception that proves the rule" here. I prefer Linnea, but probably only because the only one I know spells her name that way.
And I think Lynnea is a good compromise between your two families.
And it's a middle name.
I've never heard Linnea before, so I don't think it would raise too many eyebrows to spell it Lynnea if that's what you prefer. Very different from using Nycole for Nicole, for example.
June Lynnea is very pretty, by the way!

I like Lynnea. To me it doesn't look to unique. My cousin spelt it Lanaya when she named her daughter. I am usually not a fan of the random Ys but I think it works in this case.

this. And seeing Linnea makes me think of linea nigra but that might just be because I'm pg right now.
My brain really had to work to figure out how to pronounce that mn. When I figured out it was supposed to be Linnea (I know someone with this name) I wondered why you spelled it that way. I think with an uncommon name it is better to spell it the correct way to lessen confusion.
Also it seems like you are getting a little of your family's side with this baby's fn, right?
Though I don't normally like replacing "i" for "y", in this case I think it's alright since there is meaning behind it!
I love June Lynnea!
I'm with your husband, June Linnea is a beautiful name.
I know two Linneas, one is an adult and the other was a student I had in class recently. I think you can stick with the real spelling and still honor your family (sounds like you are doing that with the June/Jean connection)
why can't it honor all of them, as long as your mom knows its to honor her then who cares what MIL thinks
This! I like it visually, and I don't know...all the Y craziness that's been going on with names, I think it's fine to honor them with a sound of a name. And Lynn is still available if you love it and have another child.
June is an awesome name btw...nice choice!
