Bottle Question

I am going to register this weekend and keep reading different info on registering for bottles.  I was set to get the Avent Gold, but then I read or hear from other sources that you shouldn't register for just one type of bottle.  Anyone else have thoughts on this?  This is my first so I'm already overwhelmed at the thought of picking out so many different things.  With twins, anyone have a good idea of how many I should register for to begin with?

    I registered for an Avent starter kit and purchased a few doctor brown's. We ended up going with the doctor brown's and I purchased most of them with gift cards and things after they were here. Don't stress over it. They say Dr. Brown's are best for gas and we have tons of gas over here so that's why I went with them. I am not sure if it helps, but the babies seem to like them fine. It seems like a big concern now, but honestly once they were here it was not a worry. Good luck!

    we registered for 2 types of bottles the ventaires and the playtex drop ins.  The LOs HATED the drop ins i felt like they got a lot of gas for some reason.  So we stuck with the ventairs but like PP said i found the Dr. Browns nipples work the best so i use them in my ventaire bottles. 

    People are going to want to buy you TONS of stuff like that thinking they are helping.  (for instance the 100 packs of newborn diapers you will be out of in 2 weeks if your LOs are a good size when they are born) With that in mind I suggest you register for 2 or 3 different types (small packs)... it wont be fun b/c the first few days you will be washing a lot but once you figure out what your LOs like best you can then use gift cards or something to buy the rest of the bottles. 

    IMO dont go buy 1 type of bottle soley based on what other people say bc every LO is different.  Heck your own LOs may differ and you will need to find a medium.  For the longest time DD hated the dr browns nipples so DS used them bc of him tounge tied and reflux and DD use the ventaire nipples.  finally they both started using the same thing.  SO you can never tell.  GL

    First of all why are you up so early ;) Have fun registering this weekend. It is very overwhelming. I can go over your registry after you are finished if you would like my opinion. 

    I registered for the Avent bottles. I did like them, but did have a problem with them leaking. B and B had trouble with gas and colic, so we switched to the Dr. Browns bottles. They do have many parts to clean, but aren't very expensive.

    I bought the caps to go along with the Dr. Browns and used them as bm storage in the fridge too. Once the kids were around 7-8 months I switched back to the Avent because they had less parts to clean.

    Check with the place that you are registering. You could register for the Avent and only open one box and see how the girls like them before opening the rest. I would only buy the 8oz or more bottles, they don't stay in the 4oz ones for long and then they become useless.

    I would say to have 16 bottles as the min. That would give you 8 bottles per baby and would work out if you fed them every 3 hours. That way you only have to wash bottles once a day.

    I'm up so early because I'm sooooo excited to go register!!!!!!!! I have been waiting on this day for 20 weeks haha

    We registered for an Avent starter kit (I think it was $100) which came with 4 -4oz bottles, 1- 8oz bottle, a brush, a warmer, and a sterilizer.

    I then bought some Dr. Brown bottles (6- 8oz) because the boys had horrible gas issues.  It seemed to help Harry but made Alexander a lot worse!  So we switched Alex back to Avent and he seems to be doing fine now. 

    So in rotation now we have 6 - 4oz Avent bottles (I bought 2 more) and 6- 8 oz Dr. Brown bottles (I never bothered with the smaller size since they were taking about 3 oz at each feeding when I switched).  It's enough for us.  I handwash bottles through out the day and run them thru the dishwasher once a day or so.

     

    Me: PCOs DH: Perfect!
    4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
