How Many Bottles Should I Buy?

Hey ladies! I am just peaking in from 3rd tri. We are getting the last few things that we need and I was just wondering how many bottles should I buy. I know you can always buy more as you feel you need them but to start is 5 good or should it be more like 20? Thanks!!!

Re: How Many Bottles Should I Buy?

  • I wouldn't buy to many at first because your LO might not like that brand. But once you know what brand they like, I would say more like 20. I hate washing bottles.
  • Loading the player...
  • just get a variety pack Dr browns are the best i use them it comes with the smaller bottles and the larger ones and also the nipple's release 1-4 its all you need i took everything else back

  • This is my advice.

Don't buy a single bottle just yet if you can hold off.

If you have friends/neighbors/coworkers/family etc.. that have bottles, ask if you can borrow one or 2 from a few different people to try to test out a couple kinds.

That way when you figure out which works best for you..you haven't wasted money.

When you do buy bottles, I recommend at least 5.

  • I just use about 5. I think washing them are better than buying a bunch personally. I just got one of a few kinds and tried them first and all actually seemed to do great so I just use those.

This is fabulous advice. LO might reject Dr. Brown's but love Playtex Drop-Ins.

Are you FF, BF and pumping or exclusively pumping? I am nursing and pumping, so I have 6 bottles and find it adequate. DD gets two bottles a night, so two are always dirty, two are being filled for the following night and two are back up if I am too lazy to clean. If you are EP or FF you will need more because I feed DD easily still 4 times a day on top of the aforementioned bottles.

I am hoping to breast feed and pump. I want DH and my mom to be able to feed her too and I am going back to work when she is 6 mos. old and I want pump and DH is going to stay home for 6 months and feed her my pumped breast milk if I can breast feed and pump. If not it will have to be formula.

  • This!  I pump and have 18.
  • I have 5 bottles. I bought the Dr.Brown's newborn starter kit. I breastfed for the first week and didn't need to use them. I got lucky and DD did just fine when I did.

  • How many you need depends on what you need them for. I am pumping and freezing a stash right in the glass bottles so that when we roll around to that point where we intro a bottle, we will have a good amount stocked for DH to do feedings, too.  So in my case, lots and lots.

  • I must be weird... DH and I are working with three. I don't mind washing them all the time. I try to wash dishes as soon as we are done with them to prevent my kitchen from becoming a disaster zone. lol Three has worked fine for us. Before we switched brands, we have like 10 and DH would leave half drank bottles of pumped milk all over the house. I found two under the bed one day. I have no clue what he does while I am at work... But yeah, three works best for us.
