Hi Ladies - This is a very rough start to a registry. I just did a wish list b/c I wanted to keep it private for now. This is all from my research and registering online, however we might switch out colors or patterns when we go to the store. If anyone is bored
will you take a look and let me know your opinions? What do I have that is unnecessary? What am I missing? Do I have the correct quanities? Are there better brands/models you would recommend over what I currently have? Seriously...feel free to pick it a part. I feel really lost and am the first of my friends to have a baby, so no one in RL can be of much help. Oh, and our nursery crib set (sheets and stuff) is not on this registry b/c we are getting that somewhere else. Everything else is BRU though.
To find it, go to Baby's R Us website and click on wishlists. It is wishlist #30396974.
TIA!!!!!!
Re: Please pick apart my registry!!!
Oh - and a couple things I am unsure of already are:
Do I need a swing when I already have a bouncer?
Do I just get a base for the infant carseat for DH's car instead of a whole extra carseat? I am going to be doing the drop off for daycare but he will be doing the pickup...if I just get a base, do I leave the carseat with the daycare?
I think it looks fine the only thing I would say is not register for a convertible car seat because you waste the life on them. They only have a 6 year life from the date made so if they are 6 mos old when they are bought and your child is 6-12 mos before using them then you wasted 12-18 mos of life on your car seat. But thats something thats what to the person using the car seat weather they mind that or not.
Most car seats are 4-6 mos old when bought off the shelf but some can be newer aswell or older.
We used a swing and a bouncer, my ds liked the swing a lot when he was tiny, but didn't really like the bouncer till he was closer to 3 mo.
Yes you can just get an extra base for the carseat. My DCP allows parents to leave the infant seat there with the child, I would double check with your DCP to make sure that's ok though.
I have to
I couldn't see your registry?
But I disagree I would absolutely put a convertible car seat on my registry and was sorry I didn't so that I could get the discount on the carseat when I needed to buy it! I really doubt anyone will buy it for you and if they do you can exchange it for other things and put it back on your registry for later.
Yes get a swing AND a bouncer! You might find that they like a swing and not a bouncer or like mine that loved both. I used the bouncer in the bathroom when I was in the shower because it was easy to move around from room to room.
Do I need a swing when I already have a bouncer? I would say yes. I kept the swing in my bedroom. There were nights where DD slept in it, which was great. She would not sleep in the bouncer, so it was for entertainment purposes only. I usually put her in the bouncer when I was in the kitchen, laundry room, etc...
Do I just get a base for the infant carseat for DH's car instead of a whole extra carseat? I am going to be doing the drop off for daycare but he will be doing the pickup...if I just get a base, do I leave the carseat with the daycare? You will more than likely leave the baby in the infant seat when you drop him/her off at daycare... especially if its cold outside, or if the baby is asleep. We purchased a base for each car and it worked out great for us.
Looks good to me! I have a few of the same things! : )
The only thing I saw that looked a little strange was registering for 3 different strollers?
Good thinking on the bottles...I was wondering about that.
I was thinking about doing the pack and play as a bassinet thing. I might need to look into that some more.
I think your registry is fine. You may want to rethink that Diaper Genie though. There are other pails out there that are good but does not require the refills. We purchased the Champ for my DD and it worked out great because we were able to use regular garbage bags.
Also, I received a regular high chair and a space saver at my shower. I rarely used the high chair because the space saver was so much more convenient. Just something to think about.
haha! Yeah - I think I will take off the jogger b/c it does seem like a bit much. I might add it on later though after the showers for the discount b/c it is something I want, but I know people might be like wtf????? when they look at my registry.
Only other thing I would suggest is the diaper champ instead of a diaper genie. The diaper champ you can use regular tall kitchen bags with and it saves a lot of money, those refills get spendy! also some lap pads to keep under them in the crib when they are tiny so you don't have to change the sheets every night. I also had these and they were my FAV!!! They saved the sheets when the baby spits up!

Great advice! We did not have good luck with Gerber's onesies or sleepers. Both shrunk in the dryer.
I would say 100% get the swing. I got a bouncer for DD as well as the swing and the swing was a lifesaver. She also hated her bouncer. Thank goodness it was gender neutral because this baby will hopeful use it.
I agree in regards to waiting on the convertible. DD stayed in her infant seat until after she was 1. I ordered her carseats with money our parents gave us for her brithday in addition to money we had saved (2 Britax were expensive!) Also, we got a much better deal on babycenter. They frequently run carseat sales and I ended up getting an additional 20% with on online coupon and only spent about $250 per seat instead of the listed price of $325 (at that time).
I noticed you registered for both Tommee Tippee and Dr. B bottles. They are very different types/ flow. I didn't know if you planned to interchange them or use on earlier on or if you wanted to try both. It took me a while to find a good bottle that DD was comfortable with. I registered fr Dr. Browns and DD hated them (as did I, lol) and then we used Breast Flow by First Years (recommended by my lactation consultant) since I had latching issues, and then when I went back to work we tried Ventaire (which made DD scream) and Drops Ins (which we both hated) before discovering and loving Avent. I used those from 3 months until we ditched bottles at 16 months.
You registered for the same bouncer chair that DD had and hated. I was always surprised she disliked it so much since it was the same as her swing (which she loved), but the seat sort of reclines back more than the swing did and she liked to see what was going on. My friend had the Baby Bjorn chair, which was something like $100, but she literally used it until he was 1 1/2. He sat in it as an infant and she used it when he was mobile to keep him strapped in and safe when she needed to shower or do something and he loved it! She also fed him in it when they were out. It is bigger and made to accommodate a larger child and it sits a bit more upright (Note: most kids don't use a bouncer chair past about 3 months)
That's all I got for now!
YES!!! I meant to point this out. I have one and hated it. I wore it 2x fr 5 min and then found out later on that they are not that great.
If you are intersted in being a baby-wearing Mama, I would do some research and see what places sell wraps/ carrier. There's a place about 30 min from my house called Waddle and Swaddle and they not only fit you for and custom order wraps/ carriers for you, they have classes and consultations in baby-wearing. I am going soon to get fitted before I get too big.
Another great point. Carter's clothes really did last longer and were more true-to-size (in my experience anyway).
I say it looks like you've done your research. Only a few things to maybe question:
1) pp mentioned maybe just registering for 1 set of Dr. Brown's bottles until you know if the baby even likes them. I'll second that. I reg'd for the Newborn starter set that comes with a couple different sizes & nipples.
2) Also think I'd agree with choosing Carters over Gerber for the clothing.
3) I didn't think to look before I posted, but do you live in a fairly warm climate? All the clothing seemed to be short sleeved & legless. From what I hear infants live in sleepers for the first few weeks. You may want to add some sleepers since you're having a winter baby.
This is what I was going to say. Plus, it becomes really uncomfortable for the wearer by about 15lbs. It's such a waste of money. Register for an Ergo if you're wanting a soft structured carrier. They have them at BRU (online) too I believe. Much better for the baby, the wearer, and will last well into toddlerhood. We still use one with our 13 month old.
Have to add one more thing! My SIL said the majority of the burp clothes she had sucked, she found the old cloth diapers to be the best. They're cheap, too.

I heard the same thing.
I've heard from tons of my mommy friends and also read in baby bargains (which is 99% spot on with what most moms tell me) that the travel system strollers aren't necessary. They all recommended (as well as Baby Bargains) the Graco Snug Ride 35 for the infant car seat and to get the Graco Snug Rider as the stroller. If you do go with the Snug Ride 35 for the car seat remember to get the front latching adjuster (way easier than to have to adjust it from the back) and there is the 3 point harness system and the 5 point harness system (I'm going with the 5 because it's supposed to be safer).
I am also going with the Graco Pac n' Play to use instead of a bassinet. I've heard RAVE reviews about this.
