Please talk me down....I can't help but think...

that maybe I did something to DD while pregnant?  I know this may sound silly but I had a ton of ultrasounds (due to spotting, car accident, possible heart arrhythmia) and had an at home doppler.  I didn't use the doppler that often, but one time, while I was at the ER for something, it took the nurses FOREVER (over 10 mins) to find the heart with the doppler.  So ever since then, I've been so worried that something could be wrong with her because of this.  Please make me feel better!!!

  • Is there something in particular that you are worried about? I had a doppler with DD and DS, and used it often up until 16 weeks or so once I was feeling movement

  • I just can't help but wonder if all the sound waves did something to her brain development or something.  It sounds ridiculous, I can admit it, but, when they had that doppler on me for awhile, I guess that's when I started thinking about it.  I had a ton of ultrasounds too.
  • I had those issues with all of my NST's. She was just a booger to track with the doppler. They found her HB and I assume all was well? You (and she!) should be fine! My DD is perfect and healthy as a horse and she had to deal with my medical crap too while I was pregnant.

  • It sounds so ridiculous!!  I hate myself for feeling like this, but, I know there are things that people suspect could happen because of frequent ultrasounds or something like that.  And I'm rational enough to know that these things you read on the internet or crazy!  But, I guess I just worry that the doppler was on me for so long!  I know DD was fine, but just that she was subjected to a lot of sound waves.

Whoops...wanted to add that I too had a ton of ultrasounds because of complications in my previous pregnancy and to keep an eye on the placenta. I had one every 2-4 weeks from 18w on up to 37 weeks.

  • The whole soundwaves hurting babies brain thing is an urban legend. Been disproved. Now, I had a few extra ultrasounds and doppler checks. Everyone had a difficult time finding DD's heart via doppler. She just hated it and would squirm away from it. Your LO is fine! There is no need to worry!

  • Can I just say that you ladies are amazing?!  I really thought I would have been flamed or made fun of but you are all just so sweet.  Maybe it's all the post partum hormones, but I really do appreciate ALL of your kind words!
  • Nah, no need for flames! Having a newborn has caused me much stress and anxiety about things too! Hang in there Mama!!

Unless your pediatrican is concerned it jus sounds like your going through some anxiety. I'm sure everything is just fine. I had tons of ultrasounds and NST's and Caitlin is awesome.

  • I agree with all the other ladies, I wouldnt worry about it. Unless the pediatrician is worried. With my twins I had an ultrasound every 4 weeks untill i was 28wks, then i went into preterm labor and had a NST and ultrasound every other week and they are fine. With my new LO i was in a car accident when i was 5 weeks pregnant and had to have xrays and everything and she is perfect, no issues at all.

    Hang in there mama!!!

  • DS (2) had montly u/s and always took forever to find on the doppler. He hid from it. He is most definitely not delayed nor does he have any problem w/ brain development since he is an extrememly active 2 year old who knows his alphabet and counts to 10 backward and forward as well as having a HUGE vocabulary. The girls also had monthly u/s and even more frequent from 28 weeks on since the doppler couldn't always find both of them for sure... I'm not worried about any effects. I researched u/s and didn't find anything to concern me.
