Thoughts: Mom & Tot Preschool...?

So, I would like to do a mom/tot preschool program with my DS.  It would be one day a week, an hour and 15 minutes per session, for 12 weeks.  We have a wonderful mom group and DS is very social, but I'd like to get him into a situation with structure in which he can learn to follow directions from someone other than me.

Here's my concern...there are two different classes:  one for 18 months to under 3 years, or one for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year olds.  I would prefer to do the class with older kids, but it's smack in the middle of DS's naptime.  I could probably let him take a nap when he comes home (the child NEEDS a nap), but it would delay his nap by two hours, throw off our day, and I don't know if he would be cranky or tired during the class.

I am sort of anticipating that the first class would be filled with kids mostly younger than my DS.  I would really rather he be in a class where the other kids are at his age and "ability" level or higher.  Plus, I get the impression that the first class is more about mommy & me time, and the second is more about getting the kids to feel comfortable in a class setting while parents are still around...which is more of what I was hoping for.  Otherwise, I think the curriculum is pretty much the same.

What would you do...?

  • I think that if it's only one day a week it would be worth the schedule change. Good luck!

  • for only one day a week I think it would be worth it to have a "disruption" in the routine if it means he's around kids more his own age/ level.
