Trouble TTC

Weird Clomid issues

Has anyone else had this happen?

I normally have very regular cycles and have had my prog tested twice before with results indicating that I ovulated.  Well DH has low sperm count and we've been trying for a year and a half so my Ob/gyn gave me 50 mg Clomid last month.  I got a pos ovul test CD 14 and had cramping/swelling on both my ovaries.  Well I just got my prog results back and I did not ovulate!!  I ovulate fine on my own and now on Clomid, I don't?  And my cycle has been all over the place with heaving bleeding and I got my period a week early.  I asked my Dr what I should do now and she upped my Clomid to 100mg!  Does that seem weird to you all?  I have finally found an RE and am going for my 1st appt Mon. I think I need a second opinion.  Especially since my Ob/gyn does everything over the phone and I have had no other tests done besides the prog.  I'm thinking maybe I have an issue going on that the Clomid isn't going to help.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

 Thanks,  L

Re: Weird Clomid issues

  • I have not had a similar problem, but it doesn't make sense to me that they would put you on Clomid if you O on your own.  Also, you should always, always be monitored while taking Clomid.  You should be getting bloodwork and ultrasounds while on it.  Not being monitored is extremely dangerous.

I am really glad you are going to see a RE.  Good luck!

  • Eris-Alexis, I O on my own, and my RE put me on 100mg of Clomid.

However I do agree about being monitored by an RE while on Clomid... That is a must.

Agreed. I ovulate on my own as well...but just finished my first Clomid cycle. I would definitely suggest being monitored by an RE before continuing though...

  • I also O on my own but am on my first cycle of Clomid because we have MFI so the re is trying to give the sperm more targets. Also my LP is under 10 days so that will hopefully help me O earlier.

But do get ultrasounds done especially before you start to make sure there are no cysts.

  • I'm glad you're going to see an RE.  OB's tend to hand out clomid like it's candy, and don't do the proper monitoring.  RE's tend to be much more pro-active and thorough, and I'm sure yours will be more helpful than your OB.

A lot of women are put on clomid even if they O on their own.  Most of the time, they're Oing, but just not strong enough.  I O on my own, but I was put on clomid to increase my progesterone and move up my O date.

I didn't really have a similar situation to yours, but when I was on 50mg of clomid, I didn't respond as well as my RE would have liked, so he upped my dosage to 100mg.
